temporarily sending the world past a deeply symbolic mark.

temporarily

cool-zone

I guess once the sun consumes the earth, then slowly cools and dies over 5 billion years from now it'll go back to pre-industrial levels.

It's over 60F today where I live. Should be in the teens. What the fuck what the fuck whatthefuck

Yeah, my area is famous for it's winter and yet it's ~60F. Hard to be optimistic about the future when this is the present

Yea the planet is assuredly fucked. I just hope my cats and I are dead before the water wars.

The world has made some progress, with green technologies like renewables and electric vehicles booming in many parts of the world.

FUUUUUUUCK ELECTRIC CARS. Holy fuck i'm tired of people thinking they are the solution. The solution is a public transit system that takes you to where you want to go, not a personal car for every human.

I don't think there will be many water wars beyond low intensity conflict, it's just a justification to militarise the response to climate change/adaption

(There's already huge water and food scarcity across the world)

At the current rate of emissions, the Paris goal of limiting warming to 1.5C as a long-term average - rather than a single year - could be crossed within the next decade.

The next sentence is like a punchline.

This would be a hugely symbolic milestone, but researchers say it wouldn't mark a cliff edge beyond which climate change will spin out of control.

A sexist joke

The doctor is talking to a patient.

"I've got some good news and some bad news. Which do you want to hear first?"

"Um... the bad news."

"Your cancer is only stage 3. You've probably got about five years to live."

"What's the good news?"

"It's not stage four! And did you see the hooters on my young sexy nurse?"

You've probably got about five years to live

someone's optimistic

What we need is a team of hackers targetting the deniers and their social accounts. These are the accounts socials are promoting instead of the facts.. You damn sure some are bots and astroturf accounts too. Bringing these down will have some effect. As would targetting the websites and socials of big fossil and big banks.

In a nutshell, The Ministry for the Future proposes a three-pronged approach to combating climate change: science, politics, and ecoterrorism.

The tolerance that the novel displays towards ecoterrorism—which here spans everything from targeted assassinations, to mass drone attacks on jet planes in an attempt to make that mode of transportation seem unsafe, to an announcement by the Children that they have infected random herds of beef cattle with Mad Cow Disease—is intriguing.
