the great firewall isn't there to protect Chinese people, it's there so the internet isn't flooded with western malding about constantly getting owned

[–] [email protected] 57 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Basically hexbear before first federation

[–] [email protected] 21 points 9 months ago

And after the lemm.ee defed

[–] [email protected] 37 points 9 months ago (2 children)

It's going to be hilarious if one day the firewall comes down and the entire net switches to Chinese poster's control like someone just built a cultural wonder in civ.

Every fast food chain establishing a Russian branch as soon as 1992 rolled around but it’s Weibo dominating the internet once the US becomes a spiritual rump state after ramaswamy pushes his luck too hard or smth once trump dies idfk

I mean, take that population size, and assuming this is an example of their powerful but not necessarily MOST powerful posters and yeah. The rest of the internet would be taken by fucking storm! The sheer posting power and constant ownage will finally overwhelm the Western Internet and force the it's citizens to finally finally touch grass. And they will find fighting the real fight offline easier than the fake fight online. They will find their landlord can't post better or really do anything better, their employers can be hanged and stopped from clapping back as hard as the Chinese posters can. Then....then we will see the sun rise for the first time in generations.

The 4 columns of Chinese posting will be joined by a 5th, Hexbear Column

I found a YouTube link in your comment. Here are links to the same video on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:

not vegetarians (meaning they are not pushovers)

Based Chinese recognize that vegetarianism is a weak-ass substitute for the true strength of character that is veganism

Chinese posters go on hexbear

I'm imagining an alternate timeline now, wherein Texas and Hong Kong seceded at the same time, and Hong Kong is just immediately annexed by Texas because Britain didn't want them and Texas was a good enough second choice for Imperial Daddy. Hong Kong is reabsorbed back into China and Texas back into the USA within about a month tops, the incident fades into obscurity, and within two decades history YouTubers make videos presenting Texan Hong Kong as a zany did-you-know

[–] [email protected] 51 points 9 months ago (1 children)

The worst part of this timeline is YouTube still existing in 20 years.

Don't worry, it was nationalized following the Great Californian People's Revolution

It's not fair, I can't read Mandarin and I'm missing out

[–] [email protected] 24 points 9 months ago

Mentally preparing a list of China watching libs I know I can send this to for salt harvesting purposes

Bit idea: Han Zheng takes a Pelosiesque flight to Austin

[–] [email protected] 11 points 9 months ago (3 children)

what is the context?

are these comments saying its cool that texas is trying even harder than the US Govt to maim and torment immigrants?

[–] [email protected] 48 points 9 months ago (1 children)

It's about turning around rhetoric about Taiwan towards the USA. I honestly don't see a reason for Chinese people to articulate the nuanced position, like you suggest, of condemning Texas for being 100% Hitler to the USA's 99%.

[–] [email protected] 18 points 9 months ago

Thats fair, makes sense

[–] [email protected] 26 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

It’s also about the HK protest that had a nativist characteristic against mainlanders but westerners seem to think it’s all about freedom and democracy. These are just using western rhetorics against themselves

[–] [email protected] 10 points 9 months ago (1 children)

no but it's cool that Texas is flirting with secession and civil war

If that civil war does happen, then the real international community gets undyne-joy a nice little treat, and it'll be like 1917 again

[–] [email protected] 5 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Reducing US the reach of US hegemony? Yeah, that's probably a benefit for a lot of people (supposing that other powers don't just fill the power vacuum just to continue exploitation - "new boss, same as the old boss").

Suffering and death of millions of vulnerable people and non-combatants? Not so great.

Do have to apreciate the great snark/turnabout though, even if I don't agree.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 9 months ago

Yeah, the decline of the U.S. is going to hurt a lot of people, it really comes down to how many, who, and where. It's ultimately a net good but it sure won't be pretty.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 9 months ago (1 children)

not sure if you read mandarin or not but i'm a complete beginner so bear with me:

when describing the us, why do they not use 美国?

[–] [email protected] 12 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (1 children)

Could you point out where you're talking about that?

The only two instances of the US being said is

美国

美国政府

Which is America and American government respectively

[–] [email protected] 9 points 9 months ago (3 children)

in the first post:

美万

or something, i can't recognize the second character but it looks very similar to 万, but with a dash

[–] [email protected] 12 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (1 children)

方, meaning direction. In this instance 美方 meaning "the American Side". Similarly, 甲方、乙方 are used in legal documents meaning Party A and Party B.

thank you! this was very helpful

[–] [email protected] 8 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (1 children)

Not pictured but you may also sometimes see 美帝 which means American Empire

[–] [email protected] 4 points 9 months ago

ah, thank you!
