"And most important of all! Every industrial and commercial centre in England now possesses a working class divided into two hostile camps, English proletarians and Irish proletarians. The ordinary English worker hates the Irish worker as a competitor who lowers his standard of life. In relation to the Irish worker he regards himself as a member of the ruling nation and consequently he becomes a tool of the English aristocrats and capitalists against Ireland, thus strengthening their domination over himself. He cherishes religious, social, and national prejudices against the Irish worker.... This antagonism is the secret of the impotence of the English working class, despite its organization. It is the secret by which the capitalist class maintains its power. And the latter is quite aware of this."

It's actually concerning how true this is in Aus. The correlation of your family being well off and them being a nominal member of Anglican/Scottish Prebyrtarian denominations compared to catholic/other protestant/any other religion approaches 1.

I don't see how this is different from any anti-immigrant sentiment: more demand for housing, more competition for jobs, the usual talking points

Anti-immigrant sentiment is usually only applied to people on the wrong side of us-foreign-policy

Australia’s racism couldn’t be confined to the 21st century, they had to reach back and pull out some antique racism. Kicking the Irish back out of whiteness.

[–] [email protected] 23 points 9 months ago

Australians are just Brits on a larger island, anyway.

Makes sense they'd try to kick out the Irish.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 9 months ago (2 children)

Were the irish ever really allowed into whiteness? Not the like 5th generation american ones i mean, the actual irish.

[–] [email protected] 19 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Probably in the USA people stopped caring about whether or not you were Irish some time after the 1940s. In the UK anti-irish racism continued throughout the troubles well into the 90s, and there are still some English people who have stuck with the good old tradition of hating Irish people (though much less now).

americans learned to accept the irish after a famous politician of irish extraction dedicated his life to transparency, even going so far as to show the inside of his mind to the american people.

Pretty mind blowing moment tbf

I'm honestly surprised neo-nazis haven't tried doing the aryan neo-pagan thing with the irish yet: white skin, red hair, vaguely pagan celtic aesthetics co-opted as like a second pole of aryan ubermensch.

I mean, he says it right there: it's not about skin colour it's economic

"As you can see, I am not being racist, I'm clearly being xenophobic."

[–] [email protected] 34 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Never a good sign when even the Irish are getting their white cards revoked

[–] [email protected] 21 points 9 months ago

Particularly not by the Irish either

[–] [email protected] 30 points 9 months ago (2 children)

26+6=1 but the 6 are the Australian states.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 9 months ago

Critical support for the IRA annexing Australia in retaliation for the Brits taking the 6 counties.

hard DMZ surrounding Canberra with artillery readied at all times in case an anglo sneezes

NT will simply dissolve following a deluge of secessions and formations of indigenous nations

Isn't australia already outrageously expensive?

[–] [email protected] 28 points 9 months ago

Yeah, but like Berlin Expensive, not like London expensive.

[–] [email protected] 27 points 9 months ago

Ireland is one of the most expensive places in the world but the only jobs that can really keep up with increasing prices of everything are like, American tech companies and pharmaceuticals. So anyone who doesn't have expertise in those areas will either struggle to ever own a house or have to emigrate

[–] [email protected] 24 points 9 months ago

I love how the op sees one news.com.au article because it mentions Irish in Australia, olmate reads the thing because he assumes it's about other McLeary's in Australia, realises it's not, and starts blaming them for the housing crisis (which is due to white boomers).

[–] [email protected] 22 points 9 months ago

Yet more evidence that Irish are PoC.

[–] [email protected] 18 points 9 months ago

I mean at least they're honest, plenty of shit kicking racists, and nazis, in australia pretend they're totally fine with Irish people.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 9 months ago

Australia should just be one mega-rich person living in an empty, decaying mansion somewhere constantly muttering about how their Amazon Prime delivery is late.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Why don’t the whites understand racism? They always collapse the structural into the individual.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 9 months ago

This might also be due to Irish being the most vocally pro Palestinian of the white people

[–] [email protected] 12 points 9 months ago

Mass economic migration is a natural consequence of imperialism and the enforced massive economic inequality. But even by capitalist rules, migrants consistently contribute to a country than they take, though I'm sure most of that profit isn't going to proles.

How do we not have a Ned Kelly emoji

[–] [email protected] 2 points 9 months ago (1 children)

sickomogus I guess this is the closest we got to a dude in a suit of armor. I'm surprised we don't even have some generic looking Knight Templar, but also not that surprised, considering all the good reasons against it.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 9 months ago

We have the Silver Knight, though.

Before anyone yells racist at me, I have Irish ancestry in me.

I thought this was an American thing.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 9 months ago

only-throw no renting or buying a home, only provide labor and taxes!

[–] [email protected] 4 points 9 months ago (1 children)

It's not an immigration problem, that's just capitalism...

[–] [email protected] 5 points 9 months ago

This is what no dialectical materialism does to a mf
