Landlords are the reason UBI cannot work on its own

[–] [email protected] 19 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (2 children)

I keep telling libs that at the very least, they need to have a heavy land value tax if they want UBI to work. Because then, if they decide to raise the rent, they'll admit their land is more valuable and have to pay more in taxes. What are they going to do? Pass the tax onto their tenants? Raising rent is how they got high taxes. And if they try to ship their money overseas, well they can't since the land is the tax base.

Real Georgism has never been tried! But like, it for real hasn't.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 10 months ago

At this point, I would gleefully settle for Georgism.

I hate the demiurge. When will we achieve Gnosis, bros? kitty-birthday-sad

And not just landlords, corporations are playing along now too with their cute little subscription models 🤗

Enshitification babeeeeeeee

[–] [email protected] 23 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Enshittification does have a historic term: rent-seeking behavior. It's all about taking more money without creating wealth. Even Adam Smith vehemently opposed this and called it anti free-market, since he wanted the market to also be free from lords.

Now, so much of the US economy is built around rent-seeking and now we're all scratching our heads why China is kicking our asses, and our governments are so corrupt.

Spending a few minutes with an “apolitical” or even non-leftist person kinda shows you how utterly fucked we are lmao these people live to uncritically consume their slop at whatever rate they’re charged. Just a prime example of people who don’t know what is in their best interest

There's also a decently large group who make us look like bloomers, who think that humanity is irredeemable and deserve to die due to climate change etc.

‘Tis why it’s socialism or barbarism

Mao really did have it right wrt land leeches

[–] [email protected] 34 points 10 months ago

the maoist uprising against the landlords was the largest and most comprehensive proletarian revolution in history, and led to almost totally-equal redistribution of land among the peasantry

the english word "tax" comes from the latin word for "to owe" and originally taxes collected were land rents and they were called taxes because that was what you owed the landed lord to pay rent. the word "taxi" comes from the same root through "taximeter", a device for measuring how much is owed.

How do landlords find out you got a raise? That sounds like it should be illegal.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 10 months ago

In amerikkka we have local chambers of commerce, where business owners collaborate on setting wages across a local area. I'm guessing landlords use those statistics as well

[–] [email protected] 9 points 10 months ago

My lease renewal had a required "employer" section that includes contact information for said employer. That's probably one way.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 10 months ago

It's legal for landleeches to ask for income source and amount. Most do.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

I now want to photoshop that, “I made this”, “…. i made this….” Meme but for a landlord. “I got a raise!” “… i got a raise…”
