No, it's just saying "NOTHING" is written in stone -- which it obviously is here, on the first line.

The fact that "IS WRITTEN IN STONE" is also written in stone isn't mentioned, probably due to lack of space.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Yeah as the picture shows, nothing is written in stone is written in stone.

Likewise, nothing is written in stone is written in stone can also be written in stone.

And nothing is written in stone is written in stone is written in stone can also be written in stone.

etc.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 10 months ago

Can etc. be written in stone?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 10 months ago

Just a stone with “Nothing” carved in it would be an even more powerful troll.

Might get dug up too often by people assuming there’s something under it though.

it is simultaneously right and wrong

[–] [email protected] 4 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Isn't it just wrong though? The statement contradicts itself which makes it wrong.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 10 months ago (1 children)

It is correct, because 'nothing' is indeed written in stone!

[–] [email protected] 4 points 10 months ago (2 children)

It isn't, because "nothing" isn't put in quotation marks like I or u have. Quotation marks indicate literality which would be required in this interpretation. So no, the absence of quotation marks makes this statement contradictory and hence, wrong.

There is no period so it's not technically a statement, nor is it properly capitalised to be a statement. It is a title. Ipso facto, your rules regarding proper punctuation are null and void.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago

Fair. However, as a title, it is essentially just a string of words that collectively act as a noun, or a name for the given face of the stone. Names being names can never be right or wrong. Hence, we all are wrong for trying to judge whether this string of words is right or wrong as it is semantically impossible for it to be right or wrong. By pointing this out, I am right and you are all wrong.

Nothing is written in stone...

[–] [email protected] 10 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Technically things are carved into stone, so...

[–] [email protected] 8 points 10 months ago (1 children)

If we're being pedantic, graphite is technically a stone, so things are frequently written in stone

[–] [email protected] 4 points 10 months ago (1 children)

actually that's written with stone

[–] [email protected] 4 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Remember we're being pedantic. So you're saying something can't be written in ink? 🧐

[–] [email protected] 3 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (1 children)

Only if you're standing in it. If you're going to be pedantic do it right.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

So something can't be written in pencil?

You're not winning this one

[–] [email protected] 2 points 10 months ago

Have you tried looking inside to find out?

You're not winning this one

[–] [email protected] 4 points 10 months ago

Words written in stone can still be destroyed, it just takes more effort.
