Today we spent some time preparing for the big upgrade, by kicking the Lemmy version up to 0.18.5, merging in the latest changes from lemmy-ansible git repository and cleaning up some disk space on the instance.

So tomorrow at 02.00 am Oregon time we will do the update to Lemmy 0.19.

This is 11.00 am CET for people in Europe.

Hopefully all goes well and we come out the other side with a nice new 0.19 version. Its supposed to take about 30 minutes of downtime if there are no issues to solve.

Wish us luck :)

IMPORTANT: You probably need to log out and log in again to be able to post anything since they reworked authentication in this release.

First thing I will do in Lemmy 0.19 is block Metas threads.... Or maybe wait a while and see what kid of shit starts coming in and then block.

Thanks for a heads up!

Could you also please list UTC (aka GMT) times for server announcements?

UTC time can be understood by people all around the world, as it is an international standard, and it is legible for Europeans, too, being just one to two hours less than CET. Besides, not even whole Europe lives by CET, and it introduces DST which makes it even more of a headache to track, while UTC is always stable.

Oh, and for the info, UTC time of an update is 10:00 am.

Absolutely!

We managed to write the wrong time in CET for this downtime, so the update started one hour later than announced because of this. Sorry about that, will double check this for future updates!

Thanks for pointing this out, much appriciated. :)

Using FF on PC if I come to the community directly there's no sort type that shows this announcement. The only way I can get here is by hopping into your profile and looking at the posts you've made.

We are now on Lemmy 0.19.1 actually, not 0.19.

We noticed there was a critical bug fix for outgoing federation and decided to get that into the update also. It came out yesterday so instead of having another downtime, we decided to go directly to that version.

One of the most interesting features in this release is of course the ability for users to block instances. If you want to try that out, go to your Settings in the web interface (maybe its also supported on some mobile apps), and click the Blocks tab. Here you will see all kinds of blocking you can do:

Can be nice to clean up your feed from stuff you dont want to see.

Ever since the upgrade I keep getting logged out randomly. Probably not your fault, as this seems to happen on other instances too that upgraded to 0.19, but it’s kinda annoying.

Is this on mobile? Which client are you using?

Yes. I’m using Voyager ([email protected]).

EDIT: looks like a bug report has been made on this, and a dev all but confirmed that this may indeed be the fault of the new release, so there may not be much you can do about this for now except wait for the fix to be released.

Yeah it makes sense. Thanks for looking it up and sharing info. And merry Xmas. :)
