Solved! Thank you

Long story short if I remember the video well after watching it a while ago: while sand is cheap for thermal energy storage, storing it with reasonable efficiency requires a massive unit (much higher capacity than one home would reasonably need; can't be scaled down well) held underground (immediately incurring massive costs).

Just updated to Plasma 6, and got a question: is there a way to make the bottom panel keep at the bottom (like when fullscreen windows are opened) and not float regardless of windows?

Just always stay there without moving, like in Plasma 5.

Or is it dictated by the theme/hardcoded into Plasma 6?

Here's the plan: we kill 330 people, save 330 people, the rest is free sword!

P.S. math may not be perfect

Correcting just so that others would understand

Good to know we had something very good out of this.

Now, let's beat the living hell out of publishers so that those crazy open access publication prices would decimate.

Because right now, I literally cannot afford publishing further than Q3, which already eats up most of my personal grant earnings (which are so bad I can say I work purely for an idea).

As one commenter stated perfectly well, the problem with "man or bear" posts is that in subtext it introduces the hostility and division towards men.

It's not just women discussing their fears, it's women signaling "men are more dangerous than bears".

And this rightfully insults and angers many men, as it is a direct attack based on a wide immutable identity that omits any nuance.

Such posts do not promote any understanding of the situation, do not explore any root causes, and, from what I've gathered, comment threads are full of people telling men to shut up, either because "it's not about them" or because "women's safety are more important than men's feelings" (as if those posts promote women safety).

This is not alright.

I know Lemmy isn't normally the best place to search for this, but are there any high-quality right-wing explainers, or modern books, or media outlets?

I myself am ultra-left (quite literally communist, to the dictionary sense of the word), but I'd like to quit the bubble that inevitably forms around and look at good arguments of the opposing side, if there are any.

Is there anything in there beyond temporarily embarrassed millionaires and fears that trans people will destroy humanity? Is there rational analysis, something closer to academic research, behind modern ideas of laissez-faire capitalism and/or political conservatism?

I've tried outlets like PragerU, but they are so basic they seem to target a very uncritical audience.

I'd like to see the world in the eyes of an enlightened right-winger, and see where they possibly fail (or if suddenly they have valid arguments).

Is there any reason, beyond corporate greed, for SMS messages to cost so much?

If I get it right, an SMS message is just a short string of data, no different from a message we send in a messenger. If so, then what makes them so expensive? If we'd take Internet plans and consider how much data an SMS takes, we should pay tiny fraction of a cent for each message; why doesn't that happen?

This seems to be the most active local community, but it is random (and different!) people posting basic abstract pictures of birds in about the same style, with nobody engaging in commenting or even upvoting it.

Is there anyone who can explain the concept?

As Funimation drama unravels, here's a reminder for you that yt-dlp is able to download Funimation videos. Use that opportunity to preserve your collections before they're gone! (and keep them forever and ever)

Credits to humble [email protected] who brought that up!

Just realized that for the instance of over 800 people, some of which are very active on the Lemmyverse, we have surprisingly little community activity on the inside. So, maybe let's make a chat? How's everyone doing today? :)

The+One+And+Only+Correct+Way+To+Hang+Your+Toilet+Paper-3048017586

I just had two different rolls of toilet paper sitting in my bathroom, and looking at them from the shower I got an epiphany.

Some rolls are soft on both sides, while some only on external one!

And if you have the latter and tend to rip two squares and fold (and it's easier to fold downside up), if you hang it over you'll end up with the rough side!

Those people just don't want to hurt their bums! All while the rest enjoys more easy access to toilet paper while hanging it over.

Endless debate...solved?

Thank you.

Russian here, protested against the war and find it terrifying, not buying official narratives of nazis and NATO threat for a second.

Still remember the 24th of February, 2022. Before the date, we were all like "naive Westerners, Russia will not openly attack Ukraine, that's so obviously stupid on so many levels, it's a brotherly nation going through turbulent times, that's it". No one could in their sane mind even comprehend something like this. It was unthinkable. No one wanted that aside from a few select extremists, and most people never supported it later on - though propaganda machine did make some progress on the weakest of minds.

And then we wake up that day, on 24th of February, and have a collective "HOLY SHIT WHAT THE FUCK PUTIN WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK IS THAT OH WE'RE ALL SO SCREWED". It was a very grim day, and everyone had worries of their own: some, like me, had friends and family in Ukraine, some were afraid of their men being drafted (which did eventually happen in September 2022), others were just terrified of the scale of human suffering it will entail.

Since then, we learned never to trust anything and question everything we believe in. It was a cultural shock like Russia has never seen.

Same day, 24th of February, streets sparked in violent protests, police got extremely brutal - to this day, almost 2 years into the war, police has constant 24/7 presence in the places that were the main anti-war protest venues of my city. It lasted for months, despite police never stopping and detaining extreme numbers of people: courts are still overburdened processing all of them. All until everyone who had integrity and bravery and nothing to lose got in jail.

Putin should pay for all the atrocities he has committed, and that's something very many Russians will subscribe to.
