I just started reading The Handmaid’s Tale (never saw the series). It’s too weird, too parallel. I might have to stop reading.

If you haven’t already, and you like speculative fiction, check out Octavia Butler’s parable series. It focuses (a little) less on the Christianity aspects than Handmaid’s Tale, but it is equally accurate and terrifying (while offering some hope, thankfully).
I will, thank you!
I put it down for that reason. Good art can be uncomfortable, but christ it got too real and depressing.
If Southern Baptists could ban male and female pastors, I would be so happy.
I would expect nothing less from these folks.
I grew up in a house with parents who always taught us equal rights for all. My mom avoided churches where women were banned from leadership positions and served as a leader in different capacities at different points in my life. One of my brothers ended up baptist for some reason and I can’t figure it out. He’s racist, homophobic, and a misogynist. Complete opposite of how we were raised. It’s so sad.
