Its about god damn time. Not sure why one senseless slaughter should satisfy another senseless slaughter but i guess the answer would be something like humans being a stupid mess.

Honestly that's not the reason. What changed was a new wave of people not buying their "Israel can do no wrong" BS and are going with the tide. The news isn't interested in "the truth", but in having an audience. They are corporations first and journalists a distant second. I know it sounds like I'm gonna go off on a weird fake news right wing tangent but honestly, why else are they so slow on the uptake? The evidence of Isreal ethnostate oppression and brutality over Gaza has been nakedly obvious for a long time now.

They are corporations first

i.e., likely more concerned about alienating sponsors and losing ratings than about innocent civilians getting killed.

Nah, "if it bleeds, it leads" has been the rule throughout the history of for-profit journalism. Now the conflict is controversial, so that's the angle they take. Some people on one side, some on the other, so the news hypes up the conflict to get views from everyone.

The UK's Channel 4 news presenters have been asking the difficult questions all the way through.

I think most of Spain's outlets were pretty damn critical from the beginning. Germany on the other hand...

In German state media a comment was printed, that basically said "Israel is a democracy and so they won't commit any war crimes. And if they do, there will be consequences afterwards". It was an awful read, basically giving Israel free reign.

That's what IDF stands for... when your military exists purely to wage war on a marginalized "other," you throw the word "defense" into it's name to pretend that your military does not purely exist to wage war on a marginalized "other" - it's the same reason the Apartheid-regime called it's military the SADF.
