I recall hearing about this happening another time. If my memory is correct, the only reason that guy survived is because the team medic was also an army medic
It's happened a few times that I remember, Zednik in 07 (ish) and most famously with Clint Malarchuk back in the 80s.
Iirc Malarchuk only survived because there was a former army doc literally sitting behind the net, which happened to be where the door was to access the ice.
The medic held his jugular shut with his fingers. Clint said about skating off the ice, "My mom was watching, and I didn't want her to see me die."
I know there's a video floating around of this. I have heard that it's quite traumatic to watch. Do not post it here. If it gets posted, it will be taken down.
