Specifically:

  • Reducing (or removing) the minimum reaction time in sprint events
  • Measuring long jump from the place actually jumped
  • Measuring pole vault based on height actually achieved rather than bar height
  • Javelin use of flags to avoid bothering with measuring obviously-shorter throws than an athlete's best
  • A 1-mile steeplechase
  • New camera angles/use of drones for footage

I clicked on this expecting it to be about FSU, but nope, it's from that other Florida team.

Funny stuff.

The indelible moment came from Steph Curry, who made four uber clutch 3-pointers in a two-minute second stretch of the fourth quarter to turn away a French uprising. Curry assured his first gold with a ridiculous fall away bomb, silencing the home fans with his "put them to sleep" trademark move.

That was an incredible ending. Final score was 98-87, USA.

Really, really glad she won gold after how much shit she's put up with these last few weeks.

I'm not massively into the Olympics, personally, but I have to admit, I wanted a gold medal for Sha'Carri Richardson more than any other American athlete. After watching admitted potheads like Michael Phelps with a dozen of them, and the mountain of research confirming how low-risk (and not a PED) marijuana is, it incensed me that she was disallowed from participating back in 2020.

Still, second-best on the planet is still pretty effing good. Kudos to her.

VILLEPINTE, France (AP) — A passionate crowd showered Algerian boxer Imane Khelif with cheers during her fight Saturday at the Paris Olympics, repeatedly chanting “Imane! Imane!” before the athlete who has faced a cascade of backlash over false claims about her gender broke out in sobs following her win.

A large contingent of Algerian supporters called her name and waved flags throughout the women’s 66-kilogram quarterfinal at North Paris Arena, and they unleashed some booes as her opponent was introduced in the jam-packed venue.

What a shameful episode this has been worldwide, watching so many celebrities open their pieholes and say the most horrible things. (Most notably, at least for me, was JK Rowling)

And yet, none of these unathletic, lazy, keyboard commandos would have the courage to talk trash to her face.

Good.

I get that some of the time the criminal received was due to a later robbery, but if he was willing to do something like that to a statue, I don't find it improbable that he'd do it to a person one day.
