Is the door locking mechanism something you can change? If so you could change it to one that doesn't lock when it's closed, only when a key is used.

How do you keep getting locked out? Would it not be easier to remember your keys when you go outside?

I wouldn't view India as a world leader in any field but may be ignorant of some specialities? I know there is innovation but nothing major springs to mind. I'm being lazy though - that can likely be looked up and verified with stats.

Technology wise, it appears to depend on western countries outsourcing work, which isn't necessarily a bad thing but isn't a good thing either since the draw to using India isn't skill but cost. If the cost goes up, the west will stop outsourcing there and go to some other low cost base. (I'm not saying Indians aren't skilled, just that's not the primary reason why outsourcing there is happening, it's all about exploitation from the west in search of more profit).

Politically it seems to have been a dumpster fire for some time and looks like it's trending towards more national extremism. Though that doesn't seem to be unique at all - feels like the world is shifting to more fascist tendencies.

The caste system is especially cruel and I regularly read stories that it's going strong with no signs of stopping. I find that morally repugnant.

The amount of scams against innocent people that originate from India is shocking, and it really appears as though corruption is so high that it's not going to get better any time soon.

Professionally, I deal with Indians semi regularly and it's overall positive. Personally, I've come across a few assholes but the majority have been decent people and none of the issues above ever come up.

LaatPass should not be recommended or used by anyone after the extent of the breach and how they lied about when they eventually told people

If you don't care then accept you're the reason we can't have nice things.

It's like saying I don't care about freedom of speech because I have nothing important to say.

Why is everything clickbait? I know some communities have rules about keeping the original headline as written but I don't know any that have rules against putting a meaningful description in the post itself. Do you get commission from clicks or are you just trying to collect worthless internet points? I really don't understand the mindset of some posters.

Is anyone surprised? I don't understand why these law firms don't require payment up front for "defendants" like this. I wouldn't represent them for all the money in the world but if I was going to I wouldn't do it on good faith that they'll pay me when the bill becomes due. The minute the owe me a cent, all work stops until payment is received.

Thank you for clarifying this.

I also apologize if this post has hurt Boost - I didn't think it would get a fraction of the visibility it did or even the reactions it did. I edited to add your explanation to make sure anybody who reads it going forward has the full story.

You've done great work on Boost. I really enjoyed the Reddit version and look forward to seeing what you do with it, so thank you.

Saw this today and now I'm reconsidering if Boost is right for me. I'm really hoping this is shitty boiler plate that was accidentally copied and over looked because that is some bullshit to say "unless we decide we want to use your personal data for whatever we want".

I know "legitimate interest" is a phrase from the cookies law but there is no legitimate interest justification for this. My data is my data and I decide who has a legitimate interest in it so advertisers can fuck off, as can Boost if this the direction it's going.

Edit to say this blew up. I didn't realise I was kicking as big a hornet's nest and haven't read all the comments yet.

To be clear, what I don't like about this and other provisions in the terms is the language and implications around data use. I've no problem with ads being shown - I want developers to get paid for the work they do and that makes it possible for users to have "free" access to software if they can't afford to purchase.

I also want to add the response from Boost's dev below to make sure it's visible. You'll see that it is boilerplate but required by Google and was present in Boost for reddit. I just hadn't seen it because I purchased it immediately based on a recommendation. It doesn't make me happy about it but does remove some doubts I was having about the direction Boost is heading.

I will be purchasing the app to support the dev because I do like Boost but I understand not everyone can afford everything so you'll see some other suggestions in the comments below that don't have any ads if you're not happy with the free version and ads with their associated loss of data privacy.

Dev here.

The dialog and its content is not created by me, it is a standard solution from Google to comply with GDPR and other laws. More info here: https://support.google.com/admob/answer/10114014?hl=en

The consent dialog is also required by Google AdMob to show ads, and it is shown when the ad network is initialized.

When the app launches, first it checks for the remove ads purchase, and if it is not present, it will initialize the ads sdk. The ad network is not initialized if the remove ads purchase is detected.

Boost for Reddit was using the very same ad networks and consent dialog.

I was using connect which has a block instance I option I used but after switching to boost I'm now seeing those instances again and it's a pain to block community by community because there are so many of them and they're very active.

Did I miss the setting for this or is it not a feature of Boost?

The beginning of the end for quality and integrity for Studio Ghibli. Can't really blame Miyazaki but this won't be good for fans.

I’ve taken responsibility for my actions

I must have missed the part where she took responsibility - anybody able to point it out?

It's very frustrating that it seems to be a standard response when someone is caught doing something wrong that they are taking responsibility for their actions but what it really means is that you're not supposed to talk about it or hold it against them or even hold them accountable since they already said they are "taking responsibility" for what they did. There is rarely, if ever, even an apology. Sounds like the opposite of taking responsibility to me....
