Her explanation -- which I believe since she explicitly said that the genocide happened subsequently -- is that she didn't approve of the recognition of a genocide being used as a political football. She's a garbage liberal, but I don't think she was wrong there specifically.

Ties to Turkey. Omar had a private meeting with Erdogan in 2017, and some of his allies have contributed to her campaign. According to a report, the meeting ended with a request of support from Erdogan. Omar posted the report on her Twitter account before it was deleted.

President Erdoğan who thanked MP Ilhan Omar and the accompanying delegation especially praised the good leadership and reputation of the MPs for all the Muslims living in the United States. President Erdoğan asked MP Ilhan to be a voice for him and support her Turkish brothers and sisters.
