As someone that always got the creeps from this guy and got tired of seeing him all over social media promoting his nonsense with his whole "I'm a professor at Stanford" act, this article is cathartic and somewhat vindicating to read.

The long and the short of it is that while preaching self control, cutting out toxicity from your life, and creating peace, he proceeded to have affairs with five or six different women at the same time, with unprotected sex and potential spreading of STDs/STIs, along with cheating on the woman he was trying to have a child with, as well as ghosting pretty much everyone in his life constantly. He also made up a dubious backstory to hide the nepotism that allowed him to have a career at Stanford:

What does seem certain is that in his adolescence, Andrew became a regular consumer of talk therapy. In therapy, one learns to tell stories about one’s experience. A story one could tell is: I overcame immense odds to be where I am. Another is: The son of a Stanford professor, born at Stanford Hospital, grows up to be a Stanford professor.

For context with this paragraph, Huberman talks about the benefits of therapy all the time:

Andrew’s relationship to therapy remains intriguing. “We were at dinner once,” says Eve, “and he told me something personal, and I suggested he talk to his therapist. He laughed it off like that wasn’t ever going to happen, so I asked him if he lied to his therapist. He told me he did all the time.”

As a summary for how his podcast is filled with projection:

With repeated listening to the podcast, one discerns a man undergoing, in public, an effort to understand himself. There are hours of talking about addiction, trauma, dopamine, and fear. Narcissism comes up consistently. One can see attempts to understand and also places where those attempts swerve into self-indulgence.

There's actually a silver lining here. The less that LGBT rights are associated with the US and the collective West, the better.

Can't believe this song is almost 16 years old, the lyrics are just heartbreaking in modern context, especially this part:

And Mary and David smoke dung in the trenches
While Zion's behavior never gets mentioned
The writings, on your wall
And the blood on the cradle
And the ashes you wade through
Got you calling God's name in vain
Leaved the damned to damn it all

It's only gotten 100 times worse since the 2008 Gaza war

Unfortunately, the Namibian president who gave us the legendary "why you talk about the Chinese, talk about Germans" clip, Hage Geingob, has died today.

Which country did the bombs and weapons that cause this "loss of life" come from, and which president bypassed congress to give Israel more bombs and weapons?

The Biden administration (along with Sunak's government) is going to be sued for being complicit in potential genocide by South African lawyers, do these people not get that? This is happening right now, it's not abstract, it's real, and it's happening now. Biden broke the laws of his own "rules based international order" to arm Israel over the past months. It's on the books, have a spine. The ICJ case gives you all the ability to do so and challenge these people by their own rules. South Africa did this for that reason. Time for progressives and the left in the West to take the baton and raise their voices at minimum, and support South Africa's legal challenges, if not file their own lawsuits. If Western progressive/left wing politicians can't even oppose an ongoing genocide, what use are they?

My Reddit account had to be manually approved today because I got mass reported by Israeli bots for posting the legal testimony of Vaughan Lowe for South Africa at ICJ yesterday. I just copy pasted exactly what he said, and that was too much for the Zionists apparently. It's actually really interesting how he breaks it down. Even by the "rules based world order" Israel is committing genocide. Well worth reading, if you didn't watch South Africa's case yesterday.

what got me mass reported

The exercise of the right of self-defence cannot justify or be a defence to genocide

I should address the question of self-defence. In its Advisory Opinion in the Wall case the Court noted that the threat that Israel argued justified the construction of the Wall was not imputable to a foreign State, but emanated from territory –the Occupied Palestinian Territory – over which Israel itself exercises control. For those reasons the Court decided that as a matter of international law the right of self-defence under Article 51 of the UN Charter had no relevance in such circumstances.

Twenty days ago the Security Council affirmed yet again that Gaza is occupied territory. Though Israel refers to a complete withdrawal from Gaza, it has retained control over Gaza – over access by land, sea and air, and over key governmental functions and supplies of water and electricity. The tightness of its grip may have varied; but no-one can doubt the continuous reality of Israel’s grip on Gaza. The Court’s legal holding from 2004 remains good.

What is Israel is doing in Gaza, it is doing in territory under its own control. Its actions are enforcing its occupation. The law on self-defence under Article 51 of the Charter has no application. But that is not the main point.

The main point is much simpler. It is that no matter how outrageous or appalling an attack or provocation, genocide is never a permissible response. Every use of force, whether used in self-defence, or in enforcing an occupation, or in policing operations, must stay within the limits set by international law, including the explicit duty in Article I of the Convention to prevent genocide.

South Africa believes that the publicly-available evidence, of the scale of the destruction resulting from the bombardment of Gaza, and the deliberate restriction of the food, water, medicines and electricity available to the population of Gaza demonstrates that the Government of Israel – not Jewish people or Israeli citizens: the Government of Israel and its military – is intent on destroying the Palestinians in Gaza as a group, and is doing nothing to prevent or punish the actions of others who support that aim.

The point is not simply that Israel is acting ‘disproportionately’: the point is that the prohibition on genocide is an absolute, peremptory rule of law. Nothing can ever justify genocide. No matter what some individuals within the group of Palestinians in Gaza may have done, and no matter how great the threat to Israeli citizens might be, genocidal attacks on the whole of Gaza and the whole of its population with the intent of destroying them cannot be justified.

And no exception can be made in a provisional measures Order to allow a State to engage in actions that violate its obligations under the Genocide Convention. It is unthinkable that a court would ever do such a thing. That is the simple point in this case: genocide can never be justified in any circumstances.

Zelenskyy could have asked the South Vietnamese leaders for advice on exactly how this conflict was going to go. The US tells you when and how to fight, for how long, and when to surrender.

John Fetterman calls out South Africa for the genocide of white farmers.

This guy has gone completely off the rails. There is no genocide of white farmers in South Africa. About 60 farmers are murdered a year in the country, usually by criminals. Many of those who are murdered are not even white. Yes this is a major rural security issue, but it is in no way a genocide, not even close.

"We know too well that our freedom is incomplete without the freedom of the Palestinians ... Choose peace rather than confrontation. Except in cases where we cannot get, where we cannot proceed, or we cannot move forward. Then if the only alternative is violence, we will use violence."

  • Nelson Mandela

I guess the time has come where Palestinians cannot move forward, and have to use violence.

Very interesting how all those "pretend socialists" only exist in the third world, and all the "real socialists" existin the west. Yet all the successful revolutions have been done in the third world by "pretend socialists", and the so called "real socialists" in the west have accomplished nothing. Their biggest success of the "real socialists" in the west being capitalist welfare states or social democracies that rely on old school imperial relationships to fund their welfare in a select few areas.

No Eurocentrism present to this line of thought here at all...

What do you think of Nelson Mandela OP? He was a very good leader, right? You know that he considered Cuba an ally and supported their revolution as Cuba sent troops to fight against the apartheid government in the border wars, took inspiration from Mao and called the Chinese revolution a miracle, thanked the Soviets for giving unending support in the fight against apartheid while receiving the a Lenin Peace Prize? So is Nelson Mandela now a fascist according to your meme?

She was sexually assaulted in the workplace? So LTT is just running an old boys club tech business? No wonder getting women in tech is such a problem. This is absolutely vile and vomit inducing.

I wish I could say I'm surprised, but given my interactions with these kinds of people in the tech industry, sadly I'm not surprised. Reading the twitter thread, I had that sinking feeling and knew that it was going to appear.

Hexbear is actually one of the oldest Lemmy instances, been around for over three years. Due to technical issues around our high number of active users and having to rely on volunteer labour, we have only been able to federate within the last few weeks.

The way they tell it, you'd think everything from DW, to Fox, to Propublica, to straight up AP News articles, are all written by the same people.

Because they are. This isn't even a radical far left idea. Ever heard of "Manufacturing Consent" by Noam Chomsky? That's one of the main arguments, that the media is owned and controlled by the capitalist class.

For context, Trump tweeted out a video condemning the storming of capitol hill. Trump also said that he is now committed to a peaceful transition of power and that Biden will be the US president in the video.
