Consider an epilator. Not great for face or pubes (too irritating I find), but for legs/arms/pits/chest/stomach it works wonders. Takes way longer for pricklies to show up, on a level similar to waxing. It'll hurt till you get used to it, though.

I haven’t committed to large swathes of hair yet, mostly just patches to test, but in my experience waxing was a ton less painful during those patches. Epilating felt like someone was purposely torturing me. I’ve heard it gets less painful after the first couple times you pull out the hair by it’s roots, but for me at least waxing seems way easier.

I should do that. I haven't cuz I've heard from others it's really only good for legs and you shouldn't use it on the chest and back and stuff. But it works well for you for that?

Well there's different types of epilators. The type that's a set of spinning discs can only be used for legs and forearms, but there's another that uses a spinning drum of tweezers (basically) and that works for pits and torso. I use the Conair total body epilator.
