First off, the war ain't over. No one is going to walk out into the fields to minesweep if they're liable to get shelled. Second, $4m CAD is just fun bux.

When it's only right wing coverage, you know there's probably nothing more than a blurb about men and women being able to sign up for the world's most unfun game - and their sure as hell not mentioning NB, or other queer identities.
This is one of the myriad ways they pull people in. On its face, who gives a shit about what gender the people are? If they've got the guts to risk splattering them so some kid years from now doesn't become an amputee, then they're braver than the troops and especially the cowards that planted the mines. But some mention of men and women being able to roger up, maybe worded in a weird way by some staffer, is used to frame gender discussion as clearly silly. The right takes this and says "see, they're nuts!" by pointing out the silly irrelevance of gender in this situation. Rinse, repeat.
People don't read the article (Pot, kettle. Kettle, pot. I've, read enough reactionary slop to know they probably actually quote the innocuous line so they have some cover.) and then bring this shit up when talking about "wokism". Like, yeah, if you believe this shit, I'd become reactionary too - none of us are immune to it.
I was in the Marines and took part in the occupation of Iraq. Some people don't want anything to do with me, and honestly, respect. But I'm generally welcome here. And people like us can report from the belly of the beast and speak to specific evils, we need to get this information out. I've talked at least 3 people out of joining up, and many many people into considering that the military might not actually be a good thing and or turned them against war.

You do realize that NATO and it's member states routinely prop up regimes that persecute the queer community, right? Basic example, universally exerting military pressure in defence of commerce and logistics for trade with Saudi Arabia, a place where we would be executed. They don't stand for our rights or safety, Turkey and Poland are member states for crying out loud! This is a multinational organization who's purpose is increasing arms trade and conflict, not crusade for queer liberation - it would be doing it's business (and does) regardless of human and queer rights violations going on within it's boarders. Queer people outside the west see it and have very negative sentiments towards NATO, do you really want to silence their voices when they'll tell you directly how organizations like this have directly contributed to their suffering? It's a government/military organization, not a human rights organization, it doesn't need anyone here to be running cover for it.
