Firstly, do you disagree with the fact that NATO promised, in 1990, it would never expand an inch towards Russia?

Has it expanded since then or not?

Before I answer that, do you disagree with the fact that Russia signed a treaty in 1997 that explicitly allowed eastern block countries to join NATO by guaranteeing the territorial integrity (and autonomy) of the countries? Funny how you don't hear Russian propagandists talk about that one lol.

As to the alleged 'promise' you refer to, can you point to where it was written and agreed to? Or are you just going off of oral statements to Gorbachev before the USSR fell by one us diplomat that wasn't supported by his peers in the negotiation team and was walked back by the time the actual treaty was signed?

Our disagreement is going to come down to whether non-binding oral statements count as promises, or if you think subsequent signed agreements don't overrule spoken statements.
