My question is whether she continues to the point where she gets arrested for good. Staying on the line is quite beneficial for her because she gets publicity and that’s what she wants.
Tbh, I would not be very concerned if she was arrested.
Depends what county arrested her. She definitely needs to be careful about traveling to certain locations.
She should be most careful in the countries she supports the most.
?
What I was referring to was the fact Greta supports everything anti-Western including countries where a freedom of speech isn't really a thing.
aaaaahh.... how did the little girl hurt you mate?
because a little girl supporting 'everything anti-western' really just wants to stop dumbfucks from fucking up our atmosphere more. you should want that too.
you know picking on a little girl is a pretty lame look right? when she's literally on the right side of history?
everything anti-western... woof.
I agree she has a point that climate crisis is a big issue. What I have a problem with is the fact she is far more anti-western than pro-climate.
honestly did not see that coming as everyone of her critics I've met have been hard-right drill baby morons.
but I can accept it into my reality and adjust my worldview. been all over the US and UK, some bits of asia - I haven't seen evidence of western civilization falling any time soon, regardless of the critiques of some kid.
The biggest threat to western civilization and coincidentally, humanity, is the enormous threat of climate change. Not nuclear war, not hypercapitalism, not even the downfall of american democracy - the largest looming threat is our ability to adapt to a planetary shift in weather that will kill people in large swathes. The remainder will flee.
That's what the entire world, including the western world, should be focused on - and if they were, they'd easily be above her critique.
They are not.
Further: western civ needs a ww2-scale crash effort world wide to eliminate CO2. Eliminate racing, eliminate coal rolling, any motor sport that isn't run electric on renewable energy from snow-mobiles and watercraft to pleasure cruising, mandate emissions testing country wide, crank the price of hydrocarbons in every avenue way up. Probably limit/eliminate 2 stroke engines (some can be fiendishly efficient but they don't represent the galaxy of shitty ones out there spewing oil and unburned fuel). And a thousand other things.
If we did it today, I'd give us 50/50 of surviving.
We'll be lucky to see those kinds of changes by 2050, knowing western civilization. But please focus on the kid.
Many right-wing people argue that humans can adapt easily. So I would love to see them adapting to the fact their family members are dying at the age of 30 because we have a hole in the ozone layer and everyone has cancer.
So economic growth is definitely important, however, health is more important. I have to say I agree with you that fighting the climate issue is our biggest fight because otherwise, we will die. I also agree with you that we have to focus on it a lot.
Regarding motosport: I am a big fan of it, however, emissions must be met. Hence why I really welcome formula's approach: https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/article.net-zero-carbon-how-formula-1-is-going-to-meet-this-ambitious-target-by-2030.5QsK9NpYbz7pXp7423I3iJ.html Then, electric vehicles are very nice for cities because gas-powered cars produce the most CO2 in traffic. However, for certain conditions, they are just not as good as gas-powered cars, so I fully understand that I cannot force people to use only electric cars. Having said that, I am a big fan of what Porsche is doing with their synthetic fuels. But this is another debate...
What I do not like about Greta, though, is her hypocrisy and her double-standards. For example, she complains about airplanes, then uses a super expensive yacht to travel across the oceans. Then she complains about West's "oppressive and racist capitalist system" but never organises protests in the Middle east where most of countries burn diesel to generate electricity and stays silent about the fact that people usually have no rights there. Furthermore, she complains that the generations before ruined the planet but happily uses a smartphone and social media, which are, by the way, the inventions of usually western people she lobbies against the most. And last but not least, she never comes with any proper solution, she just complains.
So to summarise, I fully agree with Greta that we have to act on the climate change but I very much dislike the way she is presenting the issue.
