I think the vegan meat game was doomed from the start. Most vegans have already worked the meat out of their diets so needing a replacement isn't really there for most of them. But it is good when you just want to eat a burger or have some meatballs in your spaghetti.
It's also a very artificial category, as they only count the new explicitly branded fake burgers etc, while mock duck has been around for literal centuries and isn't going anywhere.

I'm not vegetarian, but I've made strides to eat less meat. Being able to order an impossible burger in tons of restaurants has been great

Seriously. I love black-bean patties, for example. Who needs that shit to actually taste like meat?
I can buy these dried soy shreds here, which make for very good meatball replacements. 🙃
I just got some of these shreds to try, I have high hopes then! Is there a recipe online that you've tried and could recommend?
