The Satanic Temple

I noticed there wasn't a TST Lemmy community. The Satanic Temple is a modern satanic religion that aims to promote human rights and compassion. Check out their about page on their official website at https://thesatanictemple.com/pages/about-us. Note that this community is not an official affiliation. TST is also separate and not affiliated with the Church of Satan, who have a slightly different viewpoint of what satanism truly is. Dunno what to post in here, but maybe some will search for this and take part. Hello!

A Michigan man was arrested for planning to bomb The Satanic Temple headquarters in Salem, Massachusetts, police said.

Luke Isaac Terpstra, 30, of Grant, Michigan was arrested on Jan. 2 by Grant police, according to a Jan. 12 news release from the Salem Police Department. Terpstra is charged with possession of bombs with unlawful intent.

Michigan law enforcement were tipped off about Terpstra’s plan by his mother, WZZM reported citing court documents.

The Satanic Temple has 7 tenets:

  1. One should strive to act with compassion and empathy toward all creatures in accordance with reason.

  2. The struggle for justice is an ongoing and necessary pursuit that should prevail over laws and institutions.

  3. One’s body is inviolable, subject to one’s own will alone.

  4. The freedoms of others should be respected, including the freedom to offend. To willfully and unjustly encroach upon the freedoms of another is to forgo one's own.

  5. Beliefs should conform to one's best scientific understanding of the world. One should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit one's beliefs.

  6. People are fallible. If one makes a mistake, one should do one's best to rectify it and resolve any harm that might have been caused.

  7. Every tenet is a guiding principle designed to inspire nobility in action and thought. The spirit of compassion, wisdom, and justice should always prevail over the written or spoken word.

Yeah, definitely monsters, unreasonable, pure evil /s

Fyi, it's "tenets", "tenants" are for landlords.

Whoops, thank you for the correct, you can tell how frequently I type out the word "tenets"! Correcting it.

According to another article I read, he believed they were pedophiles. QAnon strikes again.

Well, Christ has a good message too for what it is worth.

Not that I’m in any way against spreading the 7 tenants because they are beautiful.

My belief is that the animus towards the Satanic Temple is a mostly projection at this point.

My belief is that the animus towards the Satanic Temple is a mostly projection at this point.

My belief is that it's pure ignorance. Do you think this guy actually looked beyond the name to learn a little more about the organization and still decided to bomb the place? No, any Christian that hates the Satanic Temple does so purely based on the name and their assumptions.

What are you talking about? Abrahamic religions are all about hate and discrimination. This person was taught to be this way by their community, church, family, etc. This is actually what Christians believe but few are whacko enough to start working on extreme measures. Few will bomb an abortion clinic, for example, but how many nod in satisfaction when reading about it in the news the following day?

Never forget why they're called "abrahamic religions" in the first place. The foundation tale is basically one of an abusive relationship: "Sacrifice your son to prove you love me. Ok, just kidding, I just needed to know you'd do it. Love you."

I think it’s both, to be frank.

Yes there is the “evil bogeyman” aspect to it, at the same time the projection is strong.

I know what the Christian faith has done and what has been done in its name but I myself am not a violent person and wouldn’t do anything violent towards them.

This man was violent and believes in the evil bogeyman and I reckon that his projection of what he’d do coupled with the bogeyman is what drove him to act.

I believe the ACTS were seeing now are a product of projection along with folks who think like them shouting louder.

satan has ALWAYS been the bogeyman to them.
