Been at this tech company for nearly 4 years - starting salary wasn't bad for a fresh college graduate, but it was slashed significantly during the covid years since the company was barely stayinig afloat. That hit me pretty hard for a year, but I stayed loyal and worked hard, and my salary was reinstated. Picked up a bunch of new skills - branched out of my original role and all that. Even got a pretty nice raise last year (after 3 years at the company).

During a particularly busy few months, we needed a new hire - I recommended someone whom I went to school with. They graduated a year before me so have some more experience time-wise, but doesn't have the same skillset - mines a bit more advanced due to my tenure at this office and also from branching out of my normal skillset. Picking up coding, multimedia production, etc etc.

Well, we both went to the same school and know eachother well, so we discussed salaries, and I found out not only was she hired on at more than me, but was also given a raise after 6 months. She now makes 10k more than I do. The raise I requested was denied but went to her, and while the boss mentioned that my ideal salary wasn't possible at the time, she just got it. I was never given the same opportunity or benefit, even with my tenure.

I am.... so, so deflated and let down by this company. 4 years of loyalty to be a senior tech artist that gets compensated less than the new girl. I don't know what the hell to do aside from simply confront the boss or just flat out quit.

It's shitty. I'm glad you learned of the difference in pay. Now you can make a better informed decision. I would feel rather horrible too in the same position. Time to look for a new job, and then you can make a decision whether to stay or go.
