World News
A community for discussing events around the World
Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed. Sources that have a Low or Very Low factual reporting rating or MBFC Credibility Rating may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF 10/19
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

"Hamas says it's right, so it's right", says group biased against Israel.
Which groups mentioned in the article are biased against Israel?
Damn, that's some childish argument.
"US and israel politicians don't believe casualty numbers from Palestinian government, so it must be true" says group biased towards Israel
Anyone with common decency should be against a war crime-comitting child-killing illegal state.
Ohh what a fun argument! Is this comment referring to Palestine or Isreal???
Do you want to continue to carpet bomb Gaza?
I liketo think my take on the conflict is pretty nuanced. Generally, I don't like the State of Isreal.
Let me be crystal clear with what I just wrote: I believe the government of Isreal has fostered a culture of dehumanizing Palestinians and is complicit in crimes against humanity. This is apparent with its history of stealing land and extra-judicial killings of Palestinian civilians by the IDF. The people of Israel deserve so much better.
This sentiment also largely applies to Palestine. The Hamas Government triggered this conflict by striking at civilians in Israel. I understand that their primary driving ideology is to kill jews and I think that is fucked up. I also understand that after years of the afore mentioned land grabbing and killings it has led to these extreme attacks by Hamas. It really feels like a chicken and egg situation, which started first. Either way the people of Palestine deserve so much better.
I am more than capable of assigning blame to the appropriate places and lament the affects it has on the victims of violence.
Idk, how far are we stretching the definition of carpet bomb? Is it as far detached from the actual definition like your usage of "genocide"? Are we including massive missile barrages? I don't think Hamas wants to stop firing those off.
If you don't know, then you're brainwashed.
The instance tag says "Lemmy.world" so probably Israel... But that's normal behavior on that instance, most people that aren't banned there hate jews.
Ok, what has account age to do with this argument?
you seem to have strong opinions about the lemmy world instance, something a new user wouldnt have, are you ban evading?
No, just had bad experience on another account with the people coming from there the .worlds brigade almost like hexbears.
but you are here on the .world instance... interacting with people from the .world instance...
Is that a problem for you? Wouldn't that be my personal problem? Like what's your point?
My point is if you have such an issue with .world why not avoiding it
Ah yes! Where the fuck is my money then?
Why should i support a country with a population that would kill me? Like im literally Bi, why the hell would i support any Muslim country over a democracy where i have rights?
Pretty idiotic argument, even if im very pro Israel, UN is relatively neutral on that and the death toll doesn't seem to much out of place given the amount of attacks.
But there is nothing possible to do about that either way.
Poor Israel has no choice but to kill 7k people.
FYI you're arguing with a one day old troll account.
Ah yes troll because the account is a day old? Bruh your account was a day old some day as well?
Other countries would have turned gaza into a glass desert by now... Most would have. And don't tell my otherwise, if your country gets attacked on a important holiday, by people specifically targeting civilians killing and kidnapping people, everyone else would have been done by now.
I Don't say Israel isn't doing some shady and problematic things, but the blame falls mostly on those that caused all of that to themselves and now use civilians as human shields while launching rockets into civilian areas (sometimes even the ones they claim their territory as seen in the hospital incident)
Nothing justifies what Israel is doing to civilians, not even the normalization of war crimes in global politics.
At least you're honest about giving an okay to Israeli warcrimes.
Nice argument.. how did you fit that through your asshole?
No out of your mom.
UN is far from neutral towards Israel and takes most of their data from the local government, regardless of their international status as a terror organization.
They get independent information about those numbers as well.
Talking about the UN as a singular entity that has objective features is silly and quite honestly emphasizes your lack of knowledge
