Is it due to wrongdoing, or is it more just an opportunity to give Raya a game? Feels like the latter to me but I know nothing.

Yeah, that's how I'm seeing it too. But I get where the assumption that he's dropping under-performing players comes from - because traditionally he does not rotate them.

Hopefully he'll start doing that more now. We can challenge for the title better if we aren't running 10 or so players into exhaustion and injury every match, and instead we are giving more play time to the other talented guys we have in our squad.

We have PSV in like, 3 days. And this game is away. Raya hasn't played in months. I'd much rather play him in CL and see what he's capable of first.

I think this is the reason why Raya is starting here, as Ramsdale will start on Wednesday

I feel like Everton is harder than PSV, ngl. And again, Ramsdale is way better away. Don't like this choice.

It might be more to do with strengths vs. weaknesses. Does Raya deal better with set pieces, where Everton can be a threat? Maybe Arteta wants to use Raya to build from the back more consistently.

Either way I think we should expect more rotation in general everywhere. He's shown he will do it in the last, but the results were mixed because of the lack of quality depth in the squad. But that's not the case now -- we have freaking Gabriel Jesus on our bench.

Also could be the prestige of UCL vs PL. Idk though lol. Given they literally just tweeted a GK union post, I'm sure the club knows there's gonna be controversy and will probably address it post-game.

Ramsdale has been with us longer and deserves the first CL match back.
