they said how, as in how where you able to do that, it seems impossible to me!

Hm? I don't understand that response.
when you open the subscriptions page Youtube has to ask its servers for new videos from all of the people you subscribe to. So getting that list could become expensive for them if you were able to have an unlimited number of subscibed channels
