  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

Hate crime…. Ya think? Does this really take the FBI?

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 year ago (1 children)

In the south? Yeah, it's necessary for the FBI to be involved. Just 10 days ago some shitbags who attempted to murder a black fed ex driver got a mistrial due to gross negligence by the local police. This was mississippi. Source: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/mistrial-white-father-son-charged-attempted-shooting-black-fedex-driver-mississippi-dmonterrio-gibson/

When local police are "accidentally" making mistakes that make it difficult/impossible to prosecute crimes against people who happen to be the wrong color then yeah, it really does take the FBI to get the job done.

This makes a lot of sense. Thank you for the update.

Would you prefer Jacksonville PD handle it?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What needs to be handled. It’s a hate crime. Period. It need not be investigated to reach that conclusion.

I don't know about you, but I don't trust local PD anywhere to investigate crimes that police keep getting rewarded with paid vacation for committing themselves.

I don't really trust the FBI to do it either, but I distrust them less than local cops.

There are federal hate crime laws, so the FBI has opened an investigation. If this was "just" murder, it likely wouldn't be a federal crime and only investigated by local and state agencies.
