Rules (interactive)

Rule 1- All posts must be legitimate questions. All post titles must include a question.

Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material. You will be warned first, banned second.

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Questions which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts and joke questions.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-question posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

On fridays, you are allowed to post meme and troll questions, on the condition that it's in text format only, and conforms with our other rules. These posts MUST include the [NSQ Friday] tag in their title.

If you post a serious question on friday and are looking only for legitimate answers, then please include the [Serious] tag on your post. Irrelevant replies will then be removed by moderators.

Rule 7- You can't intentionally annoy, mock, or harass other members.

If you intentionally annoy, mock, harass, or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.

MODERATORS

I've seen around 3 occasions of that this week, altho I have never seen anything like it before.

if I remember correctly they were:

  • smack talking a mod (FlyingSquid) for saying not to report the same comment twice, when they were different comments, and the report was spam
  • someone comparing .world with .ml in politics (as in there was a comment saying "this post will be overrun with .ml people, and then a comment going "but you are from .world") (Maybe Im part of the problem? I have been called out for being a fascist because I questioned the "puching nazis" theme)
  • one more which I can't remember.

Anyways, what is all that about? Are people really starting to hate on 50% of the lemmy population because of their instance?

There are sophisticated and nuanced critiques to be made of Western power projection, soft and hard. "Nuanced" and "sophisticated" are not words appropriate to the average hexbear or lemmygrad denizen's take on geopolitics, and for those of us who live in the real world rather than living to argue over how many Maos can dance on the tip of the icepick that killed Trotsky, the loud and unrelenting naysaying of anything less extreme than "armed proletarian revolution now!" got to be incredibly tiresome, not to mention the constant cheerleading of brutally-repressive regimes that don't have any values in common with actual socialists or communists just because they oppose the US and its allies.

The constant cheerleading of brutally-repressive regimes that don't have any values in common with actual socialists or communists just because they oppose the US and its allies.

This is my main issue with tankies. Yeah, late-stage capitalism sucks and exploits the layman to enrich the rich further—I take no issue with that. It's the knob-slobbering of Putin, Xi Jinping, and Kim Jong Un that makes no sense. Modern-day Russia, China, and North Korea have about as much in common with communism as oat milk has with milk: nothing but the name.

as oat milk has with milk: nothing but the name.

Drag thinks oat milk is milk. Drag isn't convinced that cow's milk is real milk, though. Milk comes from a plant, drag isn't sure something from an animal's boob counts. Chemically it's too different from milk to call it the same thing.

I think practicality is the only important thing here, if something looks and tastes like milk, and can be used as milk in 98% of cases, it's fine to call it a type of milk.

Certainly if we're gonna call peanut butter peanut butter just because it spreads like butter, despite having no other similarity, there's no reason to split hairs over things that are interchangeable with milk.

[–] [email protected] -4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Drag doesn't think we should call cow breast milk real milk, because validating it makes people more likely to drink it, and that's wrong. We should be telling them it's weird. That should be the default position for society.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago

Yeah no, you're not wrong, cow milk is just another type of milk, there is no one "real" milk, animal or plant based.

It might be less weird in other contexts, but the in the context of our current farming practices, the fact that it needs to be pasteurized due to the likely presence of dangerous pathogens and has bio-available hormones, is weird as fuck.

So, Drag thinks countries that act as though their neighbors are part of a greater whole ruled by them as the motherland, and have political structures where the governing body consists of a small cohort (and not the proletariat) are communist?

That's imperialism, buddy.

Let me know when: 1) China stops trying to exert absolute control over Tibet, Taiwan, and Hong Kong; 2) North Korea accepts that their ownership ends where their globally-recognized territory ends; 3) Russia stops invading neighboring countries; and 4) All three of them abolish the ruling class and give the power to the people.

[–] [email protected] -5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Drag has no idea what you're talking about, does not support China, and would prefer lowercase pronouns, please.

[–] [email protected] -3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

If drag does not support China, drag is probably not a tankie. If drag calls drag communist and consider Russia and North Korea communist-led countries, drag is wrong, however. A charitable description of those countries would be "socialist" by Marx's definition.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (2 children)

Russia is capitalist, mate. The Berlin Wall fell. Drag doesn't know why you think drag might be a tankie. Drag's an anarchist. And you replied to a comment about milk.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It's okay, Drag. Some people just need to learn to let go.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Ohhh, drag just went back and read the thread. This is a China thread. Drag forgot. Drag just has strong opinions on milk, drag didn't mean to imply anything about economics. Vegan milk is a more important political issue in drag's opinion than whatever humans are up to.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Understandable. I hope drag has a good day and glass of ethical milk.

Drag cares for the plight of the Uyghurs. But drag is not Chinese and drag can't do much to affect things in China other than campaigning to send drag's country to war. Drag doesn't like war. There are 10 times as many enslaved cows as there are Uyghurs in China. Drag thinks if you care about slavery, start with the cows. Especially if you're not Chinese and don't have much way to free the Uyghur slaves. If drag was Chinese, drag would be trying to free the Uyghurs and the cows. But in drag's country, the most drag can do for Uyghurs is say that what is being done to them is wrong. Drag can tell people that normal milk is vegan milk and drinking breast milk is for perverts, and drag thinks that will have a bigger effect on reducing slavery.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Then drag and I are in agreement :)

I saw drag clarification that drag comment was just about milk and not politics or economics. Myself and others had a different interpretation, which is where things were misunderstood.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Drag thanks you for understanding, but drag would like to clarify something. Drag was speaking about politics. Drag thinks milk is political, and that it's a bigger political issue than anything happening in China. There are 1.55 billion cows being enslaved for dairy and beef. There are more slaves being kept for breast milk right now than there were slaves in the entirety of the Holocaust. Milk is one of the biggest political issues in the entire world. The only things more political than milk are meat, carbon dioxide, and aliens. Drag was being very political.

Drag says aliens because Earth is not the most important place in the universe. It's just the most important place we have access to. That's why we need to look after it until we can learn who is out there. When we do, our Earth problems will suddenly seem very small. And also they will think we're weird for drinking cow breast milk when we had perfectly good oat milk.
