Todays word of the day is "Obdurate"

Meaning

stubbornly persistent in wrongdoing

resistant to persuasion or softening influences

I hope i wasn't the only one who didn't know that one

You weren't, and now we're both a little smarter. Thank you, kind stranger.

The dura root comes from PIE deru- meaning solid or steadfast, and is the same as in the word durable

Now tell me how it’s different from “obstinate”

My guess is Obdurate seems to be specifically regarding stubborn wrongdoing while obstinate is more generally stubborn; right or wrong.

ETA: Ok - I’ve looked them up now and looks like my guess wasn’t right. I’m honestly more uncertain now. Any difference is more nuanced than I’d expected.

Haha! I knew it but I haven't heard or read it in the longest time! Not even in crossword puzzles! Definitely time for a comeback.

"The convicted felon candidate is obdurate in his determination to destroy democracy and become Supreme Oligarch of the US."

Now imagine all the Republicans who can't even read it out loud.
