I don't think population decline is a bad thing, but more to the point, having grown up in high density housing, I think most people don't want to live in that situation, and if/when they can afford to move to less dense communities, they do. I didn't mind it when I was young, but as we grew older, I saw people starting families moving to the suburbs. Having to listen to your neighbors fighting and fucking, and smell what they're eating and smoking is a terrible way to live.
