Chat is a text only community for casual conversation, please keep shitposting to the absolute minimum. This is intended to be a separate space from c/chapotraphouse or the daily megathread. Chat does this by being a long-form community where topics will remain from day to day unlike the megathread, and it is distinct from c/chapotraphouse in that we ask you to engage in this community in a genuine way. Please keep shitposting, bits, and irony to a minimum.

As with all communities posts need to abide by the code of conduct, additionally moderators will remove any posts or comments deemed to be inappropriate.

Thank you and happy chatting!

They’re fucking passive. They should directly implicate the US. Instead of “We are on unceded land of the Salish people” we should say “The US government stole this land from the Salish people and genocided their tribe”

I wish people would stop unironically saying “genocided” or “doing a genocide” linus

Verbing weirds language.

'Genocide' seems to be one of those words that will eventually verb its way to new usage in common language.

When people say “X were genocided” they mean the victims of genocide, not the perpetrators. What’s a word to describe the state of having genocide done to your people?

Y committed genocide against X

Eh, the meaning is clear, and it’s not diluted. Language is a tool not a rule
