I am planning on killing my lawn and filling the area with raised beds with gravel in between the beds. I will be using the sheet mulching strategy to kill the grass. I've used this strategy successfully to prep for my existing beds. My question is this: should I put a layer of anti weed tarp before installing the gravel, or should the sheet mulching do enough to prevent weeds?

would the alternate of planting clover between the beds be an option? It isn't grass, wouldn't require maintenance and would improve the soil itself.

Depends on the climate but for most areas (excepting the extremely arid) there should be some kind of adequate ground cover that can grow. This would be a better alternative to gravel for walkways, depending on the level of traffic.

If you can’t find a good plant or suite or plants, I think DCG has fewer downsides than gravel.

I'm actually open to ground cover options as long as it will be low maintenance. I fight gravel would be the end all be all. And I like the way it looks

That’s going to be region-specific. If you share that people might be able to help, though I’m not necessarily an expert.
