Does anyone actually play golf for fun? I always thought it was an old timey version of linkedin style networking.

I play for fun, often by myself. I've never encountered a more challenging sport before, and it gives me a lot of time to be alone with my thoughts, while also getting some sunshine and exercise. It's peaceful and cool. Okay, it's not all that peaceful if you're hitting a terrible game, but it can be, and it is so rewarding when you finally start playing well. It takes so much time and dedication to be a good golf player. It also takes a lot of honesty, especially with yourself.

but have you ever asked yourself if your sport, your past time, a recreation, deserves hundreds of millions of water?

"In 2019, the county reported 659 million total gallons used between its six courses. That figured jumped to 827.7 million in 2020, then sank back down again to 663 million gallons in 2021. That's enough water to support about 10,750 Utahns."

edit: Love the downvoter who can't speak up in response....

Nope. I live where it rains 9-12 months out of the year. There is no shortage of water here.

And the historic racism and classism doesn't bother you either, obviously.

Dude, all of history is plagued with racism and classism. We live in a more equal time now than ever before. So no, I'm not going to boycott an activity that brings me happiness because of the past. Besides, the places I go aren't racist or classist, so it would be counterproductive to boycott businesses that are progressive just because some other businesses in the past weren't.

The driving range is always fun!

Golf as a sport is a boring sport for chumps, rich assholes, and idiots.

I played it once with friends in my 20s for fun, invited by them. Was more the hanging out that was fun, but I didn't hate it. I suppose it's also a sport you can be a bit drunk for... though I guess golf cart driving drunk might still be dangerous.

I worked at a bank a couple of years ago and we had a little team building outing to the local golf course. I had way more fun than I expected, and if someone invited me to join them golfing I'd certainly go again, but I'm not sure I'd go on my own

I golf casually. It's fun when it's about walking outside and chilling with friends or family.
