How dare you say that about the original System Shock. It is beloved (by me)
The oldest games I've played tend to be Nes and Master System games, but I have been making bedroom eyes at Ultima III for a while now. I wanna poke at the origins of the role playing video game.
It was actually the original Fallout that made me realise, behind dogshit or incomprehensible PC interfaces sometimes there will be an ultraclassic banger of a game. It'll probably be worth slamming my head against Ultima III's weird menu keymaps.
I know System Shock is a great game, but every time I look at the controls and the interface I just go I don't have issues with a complex, text-heavy interface with lots of buttons on isometric turnbased 2D games but in a first person game it's a "no thanks"
I got System Shock 2 and the other Dark Engine games, Thief and Thief II, off GOG ages ago and loved all of them, but I just haven't been able to get myself to start the original. Now the remake's been out for like a year and I'll eventually probably just play that instead (since it looks like SS2)
shills annoyingly You should in fact try the remake instead then! The game does fuck ✨ it's about to get a major patch, and I can confirm the remake is one of the best games ever made.
Fallout 2 is even better then 1. I haven't played in years but I bet they're some of the few games that still hold up.
Bunch of contrarian hot-take bullshit
No, lmao, the combat is even better than the first one, and the improvements to AI, Take All button and Push Character button really do help. But the game acquired a sickeningly juvenile sense of humour and some painful edgyness in the developer switch, so it really does not have the same commitment to tone that the first one does. Also I think the overworld map layout is a total mess. While I like the tone of Fallout 2 as I do appreciate some earnest edge/cheesiness to it, I think Fallout 2 is too inconsistent in quality, especially the towns you go to on a normal playthrough after finding Shady Sands. Redding, San Francisco feel half-assed. That means that the final ten hours or so of the game make it feel like it drags a lot and somewhat overstays its welcome.
I haven't played either in long time so I'll take your word for it. To be fair I was juvenile and edgy when Fallout 2 came out so I probably have some pretty colored memories.
As a game, like mechanics and shit it's stellar, but every line of dialogue makes me want to punch every NPC. It's got slavery in it for no reason, and theless said about its "native" charicatures the better... Idk, I was really hyped to play it since Fallout was so good, people say this one is even better! Oh man! The one where you can have videogame secks on film!!
There's a bit where you can sleep with a farmer's daughter, get discovered by her dad and be forced to marry her. If your PC is female the dad will remark that the hawt lesbian action is turning him on
It's a really horny game
Absolutely Disgusting The volcel police will be coming for every copy of this game.
Look on the bright side, it's probably one of the earliest depictions of gay marriage in a video game
It actually is which is pretty pathetic
