Would this set up work? Does the Dream Machine replace a router while also acting as a switch?

Comcast gigabit --> Motorola modem --> Ubiquiti Dream Machine Special Edition --> Ubiquiti U6 wifi mesh access points

i have a UDMpro and have my WAN connected to port 9 (spectrum supplied surf board, rj45). i have my UDMpro connected to a unifi poe16 switch via port 10, the putative SFP port for internet connection. i’m using a direct attach cable for the SFP/SFP connection. i realize that i should connect to the switch via the UDM port 11 (the other SFP)…but it is working for now.

i realized all of this as i’m bringing in another provider, so i’ll have two ISPs and failover.

when i pulled the DA cable from port 10, to move it to its proper place on port 11, the DA cable would not slide home. it goes into the SFP port but does not “land.” anybody have any insight? i did not push very hard, not wanting to damage anything. it slides home in port 10 without a problem. nice, positive connection.

I've got a dead one, and I am fairly certain I've found the faulty component, but just want to check before I order another.

Much appreciated either way :)

I run a network using a 3 point bridge with ubiquiti p2p units as well as various ubiquiti ap's for wifi. Recently changed ISP, the IP address of the new router is the same, and everything works perfectly as previously, however when I try to log in to one of the bridge units with it's IP address (which pings fine) it will not load, reading 'unable to connect, an error occured'. The same happens in chrome and edge. Why would this be? Thank you

I purchased UF-AE with the idea to bridge a direct fiber link to my out building, and I ran into an issue I'm trying to resolve.

The UF-AE is connected to a test usw-flex poe switch with a short lc to lc om3 fiber cable and two 1.25gb transceivers, although the uf-ae shows it powered on it does see a 1Gbps ethernet plugged in, aggregation also sees it however there's no ethernet light displaying which is connected to a switch.

The switch shows a 1Gbps ethernet light that's flashing, though, so I'm a bit confused about what I should do for network activity.

I was wondering if this is something I'm supposed to do prior to this working?

Hi, I want to go live in Moldova, and want to ask about a way to obtain citizenship without you being born in Moldova or a child of Moldova's parents. Does Moldova still issue citizenship to foreign investors?

She has just called around 10am GMT and done it, but It could be 2pm in the afternoon and she'll still ask me if I'm in bed. I don't understand why, I (m43) have 2 degrees and run a business working 60+ hours a week so have never been one to stay in bed all day. I share parenting so whenever I'm not at work I have my 2 kids so why would I be in bed during the day anyway? I don't drink alcohol either so it's not like she thinks I could be hungover (even though I never have help with my kids so couldn't go out drinking even if I wanted to) Neither of my siblings get asked this, is she trying to piss me off but in a really passive way?

Hey Ya'll

So I am having a dilemma. I currently use a USG and I think that is causing a bottleneck in my network. Compared to the UDM and UDR, I mean I should be upgrading the router to something more recent anyway right?

Thing is, my Wifi radios are AX. The UDR has a dual-core with an AX radio. The UDM is quad-core but has only AC.

I found this handy article:

https://dongknows.com/ubiquiti-wi-fi-6-unifi-dream-router-udr-review/#:~:text=The%20two%20are%20almost%20identical,ports%20are%20now%20PoE%2Denabled.

Reddit is telling me that UDM is superior to the UDR (in regards to the routing functionality).

I also have a CKG2+ w/ protect enabled (I have a UVC-G3-MICRO)

So if I go with the UDR I can replace the CKG2+ and have a cleaner setup, and maintain a AX wifi network.

If I go with the UDM I would have to keep the CKG2+ for protect only, and have a mix of AC and AX.

Any advice or feedback good or bad would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

The title basically says it all. Can I use an ER-X in switch mode with LAG to another ER-X in router mode?

IF so, can I be pointed on how to set this up? TIA

I have two-story house and in the upper floor I have Ubiquiti UAP-AC-Pro Wifi station. It has been working really well but does not have strong enough signal to the basement where I have my workroom. Which device(s) would you suggest to extend the coverage? Currently the UAP-AC-Pro is installed into roof but could I install second device to wall to reduce the signal to wrong direction?

Planning to install G5-Pro cameras, outdoor, around the neighborhood (1000ft + away from switch)

I think the best solution would be to run fiber to them and use the F-POE-G2 to convert fiber to copper.

Now, my question is what switch do i use to connect the fiber to? Only thing I found so far are the old US-16-XG and the new USW-Pro-Aggregation

Am I missing an another switch from Ubiquiti that has at least 8 SFP ports?

I have a dream machine connected to a network with 8 mesh routers spread throughout a campsite. For some reason half the mesh routers have gone down and are showing as adoption failed. Here are some things I've discovered so far and would like some help troubleshooting.

  • I can SSH into every UAP-AC-M from a raspberry pi connected to the network, ones listed as "adoption failed" have the non-default ubnt/ubnt credentials. I have done a fresh firmware update on all the devices
  • I can factory reset the UAP-AC-M and receive default credentials, it will show up on unifi.ui.com as ready for adoption, but then fails to adopt.
  • Mesh routers that are actively connected can curl 10.0.0.1:8080/inform, routers that are marked adoption failed get a timeout when querying /inform
  • If I try to SSH from inside the UDM to a mesh router marked "adoption failed" I get a timeout, but I can connect to the same router from the rpi no problem
  • If I pull down the mesh router and hardwire it to the network, the UDM can pick it up, adopt it, and provision it

Any help would be appreciated on any other steps I could take.

The wife is complaining that she cannot click on any Google Ads. She says that she searches for things and then she cannot open the shop that is selling it, and cannot find the name of the shop to manually go there. Is there any way in UDM software to create a traffic route to allow google ads just for her device? Don't want to have to go through setting up Pi Hole just for this!

At the moment, she turns off wifi on her phone to get around it, but she complains every time, especially when she forgets to turn the wifi back on and ends up using a lot of her mobile data.

Hi All,

I'm about to install a network in a new small office of about 10 users. All endpoint computers (Windows) will be hard-wired on a private network (192.168.1.n). There will be a work group server, no domain. This I've done before.

In addition, there will be 7 or 8 TV sets streaming programs. I'm figuring about 5 mbps bandwidth per TV. These will also be hardwired.

I also plan to install a couple of Ubiquiti APs (U6-LR possibly?), Each needs to offer two SSIDs: one to the private network and the other to a guest network (isolated to internet only) for use by visitors.

Office will have one internet provider to start but we may add a second for fail over so I need to be ready for that. Traffic will be moderate. Primary ISP is providing 100/100 mbps service.

I'm reasonably savvy setting up networks but where I'm lacking is the private/guest and VLAN configs and what Ubiquiti equipment to select.

I have a few questions on this:

  1. Not being familiar with Ubiquiti's line of gear, what equipment do I need? e.g. We'll use the ISPs gateway/modem in bridge mode so the Ubiquiti device(s) will handle DHCP, firewall, and at least 24 Ethernet ports to allow future growth.
  2. I presume I can do the private/guest wi-fi networks using Ubiquiti APs and setting of VLAN tagging in this switch? Or is another method preferable? This is the part I'm not sure about.
  3. Even though the TVs are hardwired, I'll probably want to put them on their own subnet that's also isolated from the main private network.

POE on the switch is optional. I can use POE injectors for the APs if necessary.

I have been looking on Ubiquiti's site. There's a lot of equipment to choose from but I've never bought Ubiquiti gear before. What Ubiquiti devices would y'all recommend to accomplish this?

Thank you!

We have switch-flex's we need to power at > 30W the upstream switch-lites's will provide.

  1. It appears both these models will be essentially equivalent w.r.t. functionality paired with switch-flex specifically - correct?
  2. The switch-flex box says the (proprietary "poe") POE-50-60W is preferred - but for the user, is there a benefit (power, longevity, visibility/maintainability in unifi)?

My thinking is it might be better to invest in the standards-compliant injector as it would be (re)usable down the line with more devices as things evolve? Any downsides?

Last, just to confirm - ubiquiti's proprietary poe injectors are still "safe" to plug into any old device, correct? I'm just double checking we don't have to worry about accidents frying anything in that regard.
