Black-legged kittiwake (rissa tridactyla) at one of the kittiwake hotels in northern Norway.

More and more kittiwakes have started breeding in the cities, where they are sheltered from birds of prey.

They're not always that welcome amongst the houses because they bring a lot of mess 💩 with them, so people have started building more attractive nesting sites ("kittiwake hotels") in areas of the town where they're not a bother.

Love this type of solution!

Hard At Work

My intent this morning was to post a photo of a blue jay. But then I saw this pic. Here is an interesting and pretty clear photo of a male, red-bellied woodpecker (Melanerpes carolinus) Hard at work looking for insects.

You know, the photographs that I post here are not quite a vivid as the same photographs that I post at my pixel's gallery, because here, I reduce the size of the photos and usually make a slight reduction in the quality of the photos to make them easier to load.

For me, there's something about Willowherb specifically that just says "end of summer". All spring and early summer the air is filled with dandelions, hawkbit and thistle seeds, but the willowherb comes with the cold mornings, heavy dew and foggy sunrises.

I hauled my walk behind mower out the shed yesterday late afternoon. It's been at least three years since I used it, but my riding lawn mower is in the shop and the backyard was out of control. Amazingly the mower started right up. A benefit, that I will probably let lapse once I get my other mower back, is it is definitely good exercise. You know, I used to be almost an exercise fanatic, running and going to the gym five days a week; what was supposed to relieve stress became a point of stress. That came to an abrupt stop about 11-12 years ago. I had thought I would be like that till the end, but stuff happens, and all things come to an end.
