Had a pretty cool evening at the Dragon's Breath performance at the National Botanic Garden of Wales. A lot quieter than Luminate last year, which is a welcome change. Very theatrical, a little bit (fedia.io)

Film photography folks, I have a question for those with experience of the Minox 35 cameras: My Minox 35 MB has a film travel issue, the second stroke of the two-stroke-wind advances too fast, with low resistance, and causes skipping. The aperture ring is also stopping at around f/10. How fixable are these issues? If not fixable, how common are they in your experience? Common enough to avoid bothering with a replacement?

This Hawthorn shieldbug was so freshly emerged from its final instar as a nymph that when I first found it, it still had the skin sitting on its head. That sadly blew off, but you can't get a better look at the new colours of the wings and back than this

@[email protected] aaah I wasn't sure which of those was actually active, I saw about 5 posts today with Mushroom Monday including mine, so might be the unused one. Either way, it's a Monday, these are mushrooms, so I guess that counts for something! ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

I had a chance to loan an OM System OM-1 mk ii for a few weeks recently, so I wrote down some thoughts on using it vs my usual Canon kit and whether it would tempt me to switch over. in c/[email protected]

@[email protected] It's definitely a major weakness of the system, but I guess that's the tradeoff really. The M43 cameras are great tools for some uses, and suffer for others. I can't knock people for using what tools they have to hand for some photos it might not be best for, but I certainly wouldn't choose M43 for astro work!

There's a lot of positives for the M43 system but that was a killer on less-than-optimal lighting days. Some days I was doing a comparison when it was overcast, to get a nice background needed about 1600 on the OM and about 3200 on the Canon, but the Canon was far more salvageable with some standard denoise (not the machine learning driven ones either). No matter how great their sensors get, physics still wins, sadly.

It said the review was done manually and may take up to 2 days. Instead, within 30 seconds of pressing the appeal button they send me this non-comittal "whoopsies!" email. It was clearly just being held hostage until I gave in to their privacy invasive tech.
