I have recently transitioned to Gimp, and looking for ways to improve/optimize my process of these repetitive edits. I often do 150-200 so even the slightest optimization can save me hours!

I know how I could have done these much faster on Photoshop, with batch actions, and even would have gotten a better result, but I am fairly satisfied with the result for this first attempt.

Already noticed errors, are the feather edge of the select tool. I should have increased the feather to avoid the visible edges when adjusting levels of the face area.

Also, I should have taken better pictures to start with!

That said, resizing each picture separately, seems like a waste of time. On Photoshop, I could set the crop tool to crop resize the cropped image to a set dimension and resolution, even if i scaled it. I could also freely rotate it. So just the crop tool, saved me 3 steps per picture!

Hi! I am very new to Gimp and Linux and working on getting used to doing things a bit different.

one of the features that I enjoyed on photoshop, was setting the crop tool to a certain dimension (in pixels), and in one go, both crop to the sellected area, resize it to the defined dimention and also freely rotate it (by dragging a corner) in order to level lines like the horizon or other image ellements.

I have been trying to use the sellect tool on gimp to achieve the same effect, and although I can set it to a certain size, I can't resize it. This means that it sets it to the defined size, but I would like it to resize the sellected area to the defined size

Also I was not able to freely rotate it

How would you go about this in the most effective way? I was quite used to that way and looking for a similarly effective method to optimize multiple picture editing. I don't mind multiple steps for one or ten pictures, but when editing 100-200 pictures, efficiency becomes quite valuable!

I'm often using the Select by Color or Fuzzy Select tool. ¿Is there a quick way to increment the threshold with a keyboard shortcut, the mouse wheel, or similar?

Take the following example:

Given the image of the GIMP mascot, I want to select only certain portions, for instance the outer white part.

To do this I activate the Select by Color or the Fuzzy Select tool. Set the threshold to a starting value (let's say 15), then click on a white part at the edges of the image. But I'm not quite satisfied with the resulting selection: it selects most of the area I want but not enough of the greyish shadow below the chin. So I adjust the threshold to 50 and click again. Still not enough, set to 90 and lick again. A bit too much, set to 80 and click another. Almost there, set to 85 and click. Set to 83 and finally voilá.

That involved a lot of clicking and typing though. ¿Is there a quicker way to do this? Ideally I would like to see a live update of the selection as I change the threshold, so that I can simply drag the slider or scroll the mouse wheel until it's perfect.

Maybe I'm simply using the wrong tool and there's are completely different inroads to achieve this. I'd like to know about those as well.

I've been wanting to animate the building of a Lego set but have been struggling to find really good morphing software. Most seems to be designed for faces, or they do plain animation with no morphing at all.

Eventually, after looking at a few options, I came upon the linked video below. Using the G'Mic plugin, it really gives pretty easy and full control over the morphing process. As my photos were not taken at the exact same angle, it meant some objects were in slightly different positions, and the morphing control allowed me to animate these as well into relative smooth animations.

Being open-source GIMP, it also means it is completely free and unlimited use without any trail software limitations.

I actually wanted to daisy-chain a few of these animations together, and whilst it is possible, my differencing angles have made that a bit messy. I should have taken my photos of just the object I wanted to highlight and kept all the other background objects out of the way. I have another home building alteration project that used the same angle for every photo, and I think that one will work a lot better.

Nevertheless, this tutorial is well worth bookmarking if morphing into an animated GIF is something you may want to do in the future.

I downloaded the latest development release of GIMP today to check out the effects layers and it's awesome! Such a happy day for me to edit non-destructively in GIMP! Really looking forward to the stable release :)

Hi folks, can anyone help me figure out what's happening here with editing text?

Sometimes when I'm trying to change the font of text it stops working. I'm attaching an image to better illustrate the problem.

With text highlighted I go to change the font settings in the section circled in red but they do not actually change the font/update the settings outlined in blue. I cannot use the settings outlined in blue to select the font from a list, so I cannot use this as a workaround.

This problem doesn't always present itself and I suspect that I'm causing it myself but I just don't know how.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Is it possible to manually select the colour to work on with Hue-saturation? Say for example I want to change the hue or saturation of an orange whilst leaving the majority of reds and yellows unaffected, how do I do this? In Hue-Saturation I can only choose from the preset colours (and Master). Or is there another tool that would accomplish this? Thanks
