I live in an old house. My room is on the second floor. Each outlet on the second floor is not grounded. I tried fixing that by checking if there was a ground wire on some of the outlets. Long story short even if each ground wire is properly connected in the electrical box and in some outlet, still no ground on the second floor. My last option is to buy a 38-foot extension cord to connect to the only ground outlet in the entire house.

If I get a powerful enough extension cord, is it safe to plug it into my UPS and after that my PC ?

Thanks a lot!

I'm interested in a PC both for me to use to game and work off of. And for my girlfriend to do graphic design on.

I want to keep it below or around $1,000.

Games I'll be playing won't be too intense. Roblox, Minecraft, Rust, Valorant, CS etc.

And my gf will be running adobe and various other graphic design software. I'm not too tech savvy so the idea of building a PC is very daunting to me.

Convince me!

I have a friend with a few 3090 FEs and assorted 3080s (gigabyte, asus tuf, msi) that he used for mining, but they're now collecting dust.

I'm thinking about snagging one as an upgrade for my PC - hoping this will be a good way to extend my PC's life while I wait for AM5 pricing to come down. I figure for my use cases (mostly VR sim racing, but I also play some games at 3440x1440 like helldivers, maybe red dead or cyberpunk at some point), I don't think my CPU shouldn't hurt me too much outside maybe Beamng VR. (current pc 2070super + 9600k)

I'm not sure what to offer (USD) however, since no one online usually admits to selling mining cards in their listings. I'm not sure how long they were used for, but he claims not long. He's also offered to let me take a few home and test them out. They look like they're in ok shape from photos, just very dusty.

What sort of wear should I be looking for on a mining GPU? Are there specific tests that I can run to determine any levels of wear other than something like geekbench?

Now that we know that the 9800X3D is about the same if a little less power/heat consumption I can ask the question. Which is the best tower cooler for this kind of chip?

For my last two computers I have chosen AIOs- due in part to their less noise and easier cleaning. But with the raising heat generation of graphics cards- I am instead thinking of an AIO for the eventual 5090 I want to buy.

Given I don't want a case that is GIANT; I will likely need to stick with only one AIO; Currently I am thinking of the NZXT H6 Flow ATX Mid Tower Case - which if you have any knowledge of I would appreciate that too.

But as It has been literally 11-12 years since I owned a computer with a Tower Cooler- I have no idea what I will need. I assume Noctua is still the go to for high end air cooling, but even then there are multiple scews with very similar amount of radiator to fan- so I have to wonder which is currently top.

If anyone could give me some advice on which cooler I should get for my upcoming 9800X3D or 9950X3D, I would appreciate it. Alternatively, if anyone has any idea of good cases that would be helpful too.

Thank you, I look forward to any responses.

Edit: cheers for the responses, I think the cooler advice alone more than pays the difference in price between the AIO and non AIO GPU to go in its place. It feels refreshing to be going to AMD for the first time CPU wise

my specs: 4070 ti / 13600

After playing the monster hunter wilds demo i was pretty unhappy with the lack of optimization. with frame gen, dlss quality, and max of ultra-high graphics the game was blurry artifacting and only getting <100 fps. was considering upgrading to the 5080 when it comes out and get an oled 4k monitor. ultimately decided it ran and looked good enough, till i woke up at 5 am to see my monitor arms had given up and my 1440p ultrawide on the floor.

ended up ordering a new msi 321urx (240 hz 32in 4k oled) after seeing how cheap it was (relative to the last time i checked out oleds). anywho im quite worried for how my 4070 ti will perform with 4k, especially with new games (mainly mh wilds and kingdome come deliverance 2).

will i have to use dlss ultra performance? does dlss ultra performance look better on 4k than 1440p? (i found dlss to look kinda bad when not set to quality with 1440p). does 4k with dlss performance look as good as 1440 with dlss quality? should i just start budgeting for a 5080? get a 4090 when prices drop next year?

Right now the 2TB 990 has a seemingly wicked deal on Amazon right now, however I don't know if I can justify the price of it, and I don't know if the price would drop even further. Im using an extension called Keepa to check up on the prices of stuff on Amazon since I'm making a new build, and my friend pointed out this sale to me. So I look at it, and Keepa tells me that last Nov it dropped to 119. Im just wondering if its worth to wait and see if the price dips further, or just to bite the bullet and possibly buy it now, since my PC doesn't exactly NEED extra storage, but I could definitely put it to good use

I'm looking to either buy a prebuilt or build a pc for my 17 year old son. He plays a lot of games online and over the last couple years has started modding games and coding on my old laptop. I want to get him something that I know will last and that he can potentially upgrade as his skills and needs improve. I'd like to stay under $1k if possible, but I understand that a good pc can get pricey.I'm going into this pretty well totally blind so any advice is very much appreciated.

An acquaintance is looking to upgrade, and he’s asking for €400 for this build.

I have a 10 years old pc that’s starting to struggle with low settings world of Warcraft retail and I’m looking to update.

Is it worth it?

Due to some error not letting me update nVidia drivers, i went to the device manager and foolishly deactivated the Intel HD drivers.

Screen went dark.

Well, no issue i though, restarted and tried to boot into safe mode.

Screen stayed dark.

Now i have tried to reset BIOS be removing CMOS and waiting a few minutes.

Screen still stayed dark when trying to enter safe mode (might not have waited long enough, was about 3 minutes which actually should be enough but trying again now with a longer time span)

Anything else i could try?

GPU inside is a 3060, so safe boot should be possible no matter what, right?

Hey,

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this PSU? I know the 1000w non Aura edition is a Tier A PSU, but can't find any reviews on this in particular and have no experience with ASUS PSUs myself, and have little knowledge about PSUs in general.

https://rog.asus.com/uk/power-supply-units/rog-strix/rog-strix-850g-aura-gaming-model/

I ask as you can currently get it elsewhere for £99 which is cheaper than other ATX 3.0 PSUs like the Corsair RM850e (£115).

Thanks in advance!

I’ve currently got a 1070, and I’m hoping to pick up a current-gen GPU for a good price when the next gen gets released. I’ve got a 1080p / 160Hz monitor, but sometimes I’ll hook it up to my 4K TV and the 1070 struggles to hit 60fps even on low.

I’d like to get a 7900XT/4070 Ti Super tier card for the better 4K performance and longevity compared to the 7700XT/4070, but I know they’d be overkill for my setup 90% of the time. The reasoning is that since I can’t upgrade very often, a higher-tier card would last me longer at 1080p and 4K than the mid-tier options. I don’t really care about ray tracing, but I have several games that could use it (Cyberpunk, Control, Metro Exodus) so it might be fun to have.

Should I go big? Or am I wasting my money?

I recently bought the Corsair RM650 PSU. I have a RX 6700 XT GPU which uses 2x8 pin power connectors (recommended PSU of 650W). I am wanting to double check I have the correct cables to avoid frying any parts.

A PCIe cable came with the PSU (the cable on the left in the picture) which is daisy chained, I think this is a type 4 cable. The recommendation for the GPU say to not use a daisy chain so I bought a type 3 cable (the Corsair website says type 3 and 4 are the same for the PCIe and both are compatible with the RM650). This is the cable: https://www.corsair.com/us/en/p/pc-components-accessories/cp-8920130/type-3-flat-black-ribbon-cable-pcie-6-2-pin-single-connector-compatible-with-all-type-3-pin-out-psu-cp-8920130

The end that connects to the GPU is the same however the end that connects to the PSU is different, I have circled this in the pictures. The cable that came with the PSU has no wire in pin 7 while the type 3 cable has no wire in pins 4 and 8. This confused me as I was expecting them to be the same (as the website suggests), will the type 3 cable be suitable for powering the GPU? Is the cable that came with the PSU a type 4?

Thanks

Hey guys Looking to upgrade after 4-5 years from my 3700x to a 9800x3D and redo my entire system I'm looking to spend around 1.3k the budget is 100% flexible to be more or less. I'm running a 6950xt graphic's card and replacing everything else in my system aside from a 970Evoplus 2tb M.2 SSD and the graphics card ill wait for 5090 to come out and look to upgrade the graphics card then. Could i get a full build recommendations for 1440 gaming i don't really know how good 4k is or if i should stick at 1080p. What Parts are worth it to get for future proofing for a few years? New case, Fans, Psu etc Ty for yalls knowledge on what parts are better or worse

Hey guys,

What do you think about this config?

https://fr.pcpartpicker.com/list/zMTRsp

Waiting to secure the Ryzen 7 9800X3D

That will be the first PC that I build.

Should I invest in the 4090 or even wait for 5000 series?

I'm open to any change even if higher $

Hi fellers.

I want to upgrade my computer that has been neglected for so long.

To my understanding, i believe an upgrade to the cpu, motherboard, ram, and gpu will be in order.

I want the upgrades to be price effective and to be able to keep some of my current internals (NH-D15, 1000?watt corsair psu)

The computer:

AMD FX8350

Sabertooth Motherboard

ROG GTX970

16gb ddr3 ram

1tb ssd

PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF THERE IS ANY INFO YOU NEED TYTY

I play in 1440p and the benchmarks for the 9800x3d compared to the 7800x3d are like a 2-3 fps difference.

7800x3d has more stability and less power draw but the 9800x3d is more powerful and only like $20+ dollars more.

Which would y'all recommend I get?

Hi everyone! I've recently finished doing some research and mostly used the pc build template from someone's list that looked pretty good. I wanted to keep my budget around $2,000 but I went just a little bit over. Still pretty new to pc building so can someone recommend any ways to cut down on costs and on the general build overall?

Here's my current build!

When pcie gen 4 SSDs came out, people said it won't matter for gaming compared gen 3 SSDs or SATA.

Now that gen 5 SSDs are here people say it won't matter in gaming compared to gen 4.

So my question is, are those people actually right? And if so, when will SSD speed actually start to matter?

Hello guys! I'm finally deciding to fully switch from console to PC... I just don't really have any experience with building computer, its parts or components it's too complex for me.. can you guys recommend me an affordable pc that can handle/ run smooth triple a games? My budgets a thousand bucks.. I also wouldn't mind to buy off the market but I see a lot that people recommend to build rather
