I’ve currently got a 1070, and I’m hoping to pick up a current-gen GPU for a good price when the next gen gets released. I’ve got a 1080p / 160Hz monitor, but sometimes I’ll hook it up to my 4K TV and the 1070 struggles to hit 60fps even on low.

I’d like to get a 7900XT/4070 Ti Super tier card for the better 4K performance and longevity compared to the 7700XT/4070, but I know they’d be overkill for my setup 90% of the time. The reasoning is that since I can’t upgrade very often, a higher-tier card would last me longer at 1080p and 4K than the mid-tier options. I don’t really care about ray tracing, but I have several games that could use it (Cyberpunk, Control, Metro Exodus) so it might be fun to have.

Should I go big? Or am I wasting my money?
