I bought No Man's sky on sale several years ago for 20 bucks. I didn't play the game on launch 10 years ago, but watched A pretty large amount of streams on the game, other people playing it, and was at least somewhat educated on the state of the game at the time that it was released. So I know how much of a broken mess it was and why people claim that they got scammed for buying the game. The developer, hello games, did a pretty good job of developing the game past 10 years and improving it significantly....

But as of today, nearing the end of 2024, the game still feels half finished to me. The reason for it is actually quite simple. The core features of the game are simply underdeveloped, and they seem to have no intention of fixing them whatsoever.

Let's start with combat. Combat is very poorly developed and basically lacks any sort of challenge whatsoever. You'll never encounter any enemy in the entire game That gives you any sort of challenge, whether it's in a space fight, or alien creatures on the ground, or robot sentinels. It's no challenge whatsoever. Things are simply harmless and non-threatening. I had to install mods to increase the number of aggressive enemies like predators and other hostile creatures, even then it was a snore

Space is not very realistic or interesting. The saying goes, as vast as an ocean, deep as a puddle. It's very true. You can explore an entire system and find almost nothing interesting there at all. Some of them are just barren and have nothing but rocks and storms. Other systems are like Paradise planets and have tons of beautiful trees and scenery, animals running around that you've never seen before. There are no gas giants, which is insane. Most planets have no moons. There are obstacles that you have to overcome in order to travel to green or blue systems, which are supposedly hotter. But once you get there there's nothing interesting really there. Is slightly more dangerous and has a little bit more volatile planets, but nothing that's dramatically different.

Multiplayer is terrible. It's such a hot mess and many people just turn it off because it's not even necessary at all. Finding people to play with or communities that are actually active and worth spending time on getting to know people in are very rare and few and far between. But even if you found someone you wanted to play with, it's not like you can really do that easily. There's no direct co-op mode to just play with friends and run around together or explore or do missions or anything together

Suing conclusion, the game has been in development for 10 years, and it's half finished, and people are basically boasting that this is some sort of amazing hidden gem of a game. It is a hidden gem for 20 bucks. But the game is not finished at all, and they're already moving on to their next project which I think will fail colossally, light no fire. It's like this game in many ways, but only on one planet. So the best part of the game, this space exploration and adventure, is going to be completely stripped out. I have very little hope

TL;DR: NMS has been out for 10 years. Game feels unfinished, and poorly developed. Combat is a joke and offers little challenge, multiplayer doesn't work well, barely any realism, unclear direction, leaving players confused as to what to do with their time.

Today's game is Silent Hill 2 Remake. I've been wanting to play this for a long time ever since i heard it was getting a remake. I was a bit worried about how it would perform on my Steam Deck, but everything seems to be going well. I haven't checked any average FPS but i have it capped at 30 and i am using FSR on balanced at 1600x900. There's some minor but noticeable stuttering, but at least up until the town it runs well. I want to spend this post more talking about the game itself, so i'm going to keep the screenshots light for this one.

The whole game looks pretty and is both fun and terrifying. Recent years must be a golden age for Horror Games or something because first Alan Wake II and then this (and from what i hear the RE4 remake is up there too). It's also funny to me that all these 2 game franchises involve a plot of a run of the mill Middle Aged Guy looking for their Wife (or at least Alan Wake I Alan).

I also i find this game amazing because, as someone who grew up in a Small American Town like this, they perfectly captured the feel of one. The way the streets are, the way the Street Lights are, the creepy alleys between houses. It all eerily reminds me of home. Silent Hill is a bit upper class then where i grew up, but it still strikes those chords uncomfortably well.

Specifically this shot:

And this shot:

Show what i mean.

On top of the town itself, the game manages to scare me really well. The fog leaves me on the edge of my seat, and the lying figures that crawl around terrify me. Something about them just really bothers me.

Other than starting Silent Hill 2, i also finished my crushing difficulty run of Uncharted 4. It was Brutal. The final boss could basically one shot me most of the time, which made it a challenge of perfectly parrying his attacks. It was a fun challenge to be sure. I wanted to share a few more screenshots from that. I'm not fully done (I need to get a journal entry and 6 more treasures, along with the speedrunning achievement), and plus i'm considering playing The Lost Legacy after SH2. so this may not be the last screenshot from it.

I don't want to draw the post out too long though so i'm just going to leave a few screenshots from that here:

I continued Uncharted 4 today. I'm close to finishing it, I'm at 18/22 chapters. This picture is from the Chapter 16 flashback. I also have this weird bug going after i made a separate save for a encounter based achievement. Now all the my aiming has Lock On Aim on Crushing Difficulty. It's annoying a bit because i went through all the first 17 chapters without it, and now it's on.

I took this screenshot at the end of chapter 15. I saw someone post a similar screenshot in the Steam Community tab and i wanted to try recreating it myself. There's looked a lot better, but i like how this one turned out.

There was also this one in a river. I wanted to share this just so i can have an excuse to reiterate how pretty i think this game's water is. Even after being butchered by FSR it still manages to look pretty, it's really good.

Finally i wanted to share this picture of an "ancient Mesopotamian washer/dryer combo"

In more news, me and my friend finally beat the gravemind level in Halo 2 Legendary Difficulty. It took forever and we had a ton of bugs that kept stopping us, but we did it. I don't really have any screenshots from it, but i wanted to share because jesus that level was ungodly hard and i'm proud i finally finished it.

For context: I’ve been working on the game for almost 19 months now and for a very long time it had a low wishlist count. As I started updating the Steam page with new images and gifs and posting about it regularly the people who were interested in the game grew. Today I woke up to check on Steamworks and it turns out it’s 7000+ wishlist! (It was around 300 for the first YEAR of development).

But here is the thing, I’m not one of those guys who quits their job to pursue gamedev. You see posts like these all the time, I’m not even sure if most of them are even real, but I feel that is a HUGE risk. One I’m not willing to take, as I can’t afford to go two years without pay. A safer thing to do is to do gamedev on the side. But the amount of work you have to do is pretty much like having a second job. I think that if you treat it as hobby you will never get there. So I started treating my free time as a currency and trying to optimize how I spend it. Currently most of it is spent on game dev. Haven’t seen any of my friends for a few months now. And haven’t even turned on the PS4 in the living room since September. I only have time to play some classic games at nights on the weekend. Funny story but the other week at 2 A.M. I was staying late, with just the laptop in the dark and my girlfriend comes in and asks what the hell am I doing in the dark. I was actually playing Splinter Cell, and she looks at my screen and there it was Sam Fisher holding a terrorist at gun point.

One thing I refuse to compromise with is diet and workouts. I try to cook my own food and have only home made meals. I plan for each week so I save time when eating. Something I’ve found out is that it’s pointless to over exhaust yourself with no sleep and shitty diet. In the end you are not in a better state to be creative and as your well being suffers, your game suffers to. So I just work on my job during the day, and then from 18:00 to 23:00 I switch to my game. Somehow I squeeze in there 3 dog walks, 2 meals and a dinner with the wifu.

After almost two years, I’m wrecked. Will do it again tho. I have two cool ideas for other games and I really want to see happen (one is kind of a Psychological Thriller, the other is a Cozy Game).

P. S. Thank you if you have wishlisted it already and if not, please consider doing so : )

Today's game is Uncharted 4. I finally beat Chapter 14. It's really tedious on crushing difficulty because it's combat section after combat section. I missed some treasures, but at this point i'll grab them when i go back through later on easy for the speedrun achievement.

Today's Main screenshot is from the courtyard at the end of the section. This area is really pretty to explore with all the foliage and remains of a battle. And there's some really cool world building pieces i noticed too like the skull on the ground.

There was also this screenshot i took of a doorway. I really like the way the lighting plays with the door here, especially the contrast between the dark door and the brighter area behind it.

There was also this mural on the roof somewhere. I'm no art expert, so i don't know if it's a IRL piece, but i thought it was really pretty on the ceiling despite not being able to see much detail. I'm a sucker for murals and paintings in that style so it's cool to see it in the game.

Dungeon Clawler is out! (store.steampowered.com)

Official description: Dungeon Clawler is a Roguelike Claw Machine Deckbuilder. Build your deck, grab weapons and items from the claw machine to battle enemies, discover powerful perks that create game-changing synergies and unleash crazy combos as you fight your way through the dungeon!

My take: I played the demo earlier this year and it was a blast. I'm really enjoying the "roguelite with a gameplay twist" fad at the moment with Ballionaire, Balatro, Solitairica, and now Dungeon Clawler.

The name of the game is absolutely not SEO-friendly, although it's a good name it's incredibly hard to find with search engines for some people. (Especially because Google likes to show you what Google thinks you are looking for, as opposed to what you are saying you're looking for)

At €/$ 8.99 (10% launch discount) this game is almost a steal. It's also on mobile for €/$ 4.99

Includes rollback netcode. Theoretically, this will be the best version of the game to date.

Today's game is Uncharted 4. This was a landscape shot i took, the photo mode doesn't remove sniper lasers though, but that's okay because I'm sure Sniper Lasers are a naturally occurring part of jungles anyways. Today's screenshots are a bit sparse because this season is going to be a bit busy for me.

On top of uncharted, I wanted to get a screenshot from me and my friends Halo 2 Legendary, but me and my friend have been having an issue with the gravemind level. It keeps crashing at a door way. Once we finally got past that we got a network disconnect error and called it quits for today. I did get a screenshot of this trippy globe thing on a Halo 3 map while playing a game with my brother and my friend.

I also took a screenshot of the landscape of the Island in Uncharted 4. The way it generates reminds me of old Minecraft and how you could get villages generating with wacky terrain elevations

Tomorrow I'm hoping to get the Halo 2 level out of the way, but we'll have to see. I have a busy week and I'd also like to get Uncharted out of the way for something I'm excited to get to next.

Dear Reader who I shall never know, in your eyes, I know this game was ultimately a fiction. However, I hope you’ll follow us in our analysis and recounting of this fantastical adventure. I hope I will be able to reminisce and review what we saw together. Even if your journey is over, I hope you’ll still want to tag along. And, most importantly, with all my heart, I hope that fantasy will keep giving you strength.
