I have a couple times. The last time was a couple years ago with someone I met online who I was getting to know but didn't like after the first date. They asked if I felt like watching some movie and I didn't respond and they didn't follow up. Tbh, I probably would've answered if they had sent a second text. I guess I avoided telling them the truth but it stuck with me like a pebble in my shoe and I feel bad thinking about it.

I'll be honest, I don't even want to read articles anymore. Its just crazy cabinet nominees every time. Wars happening. Nothing I can control. I just post something sarcastic or jokes in the comments. The only thing I care is if a hurricane is headed in my direction.

Y'all actually read all this shit? How does anyone have the energy?

Can maybe be the same as your Youtube channel recommendations if you've shared those previously because many outlets also syndicate in text besides video as long as you're sure its has an RSS link to subscribe to

Has articles about sleep and timely research or content

Always the first thing I turn off, but surely there are some people out there that actually like it. If you're one of those people is there a particular reason?

I'll go first.

3 options

  • Going back to 1964 to watch the Duke Ellington's Montreal show. Try to meet the man and the musicians. Hang around my city.
  • Go in the end of the 70s to meet my parents before they had kids. Grab a couple of beers and party with my young adults parents. See my uncles, etc. in their young time
  • Going to 1881 during the couple of days when Nietzsche wrote Zarathoustra. I want to discuss with guy even if he is supposed to be writing all day long. No consequence right.

What are yours?

Other than the Fate series, "Record of Ragnarok", and "Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?" What others besides these?

And should I spring (lol) for the "Heavy Duty" option? (This is a new mechanic, not the scam artist from my previous post. This cat is baller.)

natural fats are generally healthy and keeps you satisfied for longer and in a less crashy way as opposed to sugars/carbohydrates in general

I feel like I experience a reduced need to eat and snack when my food includes natural fats, especially when in combination with protein. To put it very simply, I'm persuaded the more healthy fats, the better, they should not be limited or demonized in the way that they have been maligned when sugar was the greater evil all along

Personally I'm really obsessed with the lore in Fire Emblem: Three Houses

Cable vs streaming tech? (lemmy.dbzer0.com)
submitted 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

I've never known cable providers of failures to broadcast live TV in its history. MASH (not live) amongst many others had 70-100+ million viewers, many shows had 80%+ of the entire nation viewing something on its network without issue. I've never seen buffering on a Superbowl show.

Why do streaming services suffer compared to cable television when too many people watch at the same time? What's the technical difficulty of a network that has improved over time but can't keep up with numbers from decades ago for live television?

I hate ad based cable television but never had issues with it growing up. Why can't current 'tech' meet the same needs we seemed to have solved long ago?

Just curious about what changed in data transmission that made it more difficult for the majority of people to watch the same thing at the same time.

Is there a Lemmy community for "someone should make this"? Similar to reddit's r/SomebodyMakeThis.

And alternatively, this thread could serve as one: what are some software projects that I/others could take on? Ideally small enough in scope that I could make something partially usable in a weekend or two.

Previously I've just worked on whatever I found fun to program, but it would be nice to hear things that people actually want that don't exist yet, and would be interested in trying it even when it is only partially finished. I'm not sure about others but I find my day job is often full of meetings or bureaucracy, and I don't often get the satisfaction of seeing people happy with something that I built. (I wonder if this feeling is more common in other types of work)

I have a chest freezer that has operating temperatures down to -15C. I want to leave it on the balcony, which has a roof and it is shielded from the elements. But for shorter periods of the year we get weather colder than -15C.

Will it damage the freezer? Will the freezer just stop running temporarily? If the ambient temperature is -20 and the inside is -5-10C then atleast it won't get hotter, so the food won't spoil if it gets colder inside.

Edit: I could connect a smart plug and disconnect it if below -15, if that would help

I like surfing in the public domain to find any great thing worth using and archiving.

Do you know of anything that is in the public domain and is very valuable or worth archiving?

I have slow-healing/chronic injuries to both wrists and an ankle. Prior to my wrist injuries, I had been working to do some yoga to try to establish something resembling a routine but, that's not possible to continue any time soon.

Nearly every site that I've found has advice on exercises to do if an arm OR a leg OR one's back is injured but none that I've found so far address multiple injuries.

Right now, the only things coming to my mind are:

  • crunches
  • forearm planks
  • bicycle kicks

Anyone have any suggestions for others or resources to dig into?

Update: Thank you all for the advice. To be clear, I have already seen specialists and am waiting on an appointment with a hand and wrist specialist. Just impatient when the slow rate of healing and the timing of the wrist injuries.

At the end there's a lot of matching up going on, except for Fiona who is practically photoshopped into a gag image of Prince Charles.

I feel they did her character a big disrespect, as she was easily one of the more interesting female characters.

It's so bad that my fiancée has some bras that say she's a B cup and others that says she's a D cup. In order to go bra shopping, you have to actually try them on to find out if they fit.

If I had to try on underwear to see if they fit, I might not bother with underwear at all!

Anyone else feel like the reason why humanity doesn’t bother to fix important issues for a long time is because the people simply don’t care enough to group up and fix them. I mean when I try to educate folks on complex problems they often seem like they don’t want to discuss it and quickly defend the status quo saying “that’s just how things are”

But we can’t keep ignoring these issues because then it could delay necessary progress for thousands of years.
