Want a 3D printer in New York? Get ready for fingerprinting and a 15 day wait

Assembly Bill A8132 has been assigned a "Same As" bill in the Senate: S8586 [NYSenate.gov] [A8132 - 2023]

I don't own a gun, I never have and I don't plan to at any time in the future. But if these pass in the NYS Senate and Congress, it would be required to submit fingerprints for a background check then wait 15 days, before you could own any "COMPUTER OR COMPUTER-DRIVEN MACHINE OR DEVICE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING A THREE-DIMENSIONAL OBJECT FROM A DIGITAL MODEL."

This isn't even going to stop any crimes from happening, for pity sakes regular guns end up in criminal charges all the time, regardless of background check laws. How about some real change and effective measures, rather then virtue-signaling and theater illusion for a constituency?

My latest project has begun

This was like eight different prints, and a lot of failures. Some warpage occured around mating faces but some green stuff for filler in cracks works wonders.

Progress has sort of stalled on the rest of the mob, but I thought you might like to see the first three members of my Gorkamorka boys.

I've just finished tweaking this Leman Russ proxy, inspired by the very original model released for Epic back in the 80s. It's designed to be easy to print in FDM (no supports required for printing), the one pictured was printed on a stock Ender 3.

I'm fairly happy with how this one turned out, I've a little bit of tidying up to do, but hope to have the model up on Cults3D next week.

It's done because I've got two other primed but unpainted tyranids ready to go and that feels like more fun than working on this one any more, which is good enough for the table. This is the way.

The guardsmen were printed from scans of the original 80s plastic kit the ogryns are scans of the 90s metal ones and the commissar is from cults3d.

All printed on an Ender 3 with a 0.2mm nozzle (apart from the bases, they used a 0.4mm nozzle, I'm not insane).

I'm not loving how these look, but nonetheless, I had fun playing with inks through my airbrush.

Granted I can always strip and repaint, but even if I end up being lazy...these cost almost nothing but time to try. If I try again I'll definitely avoid pearlescent inks.

I'm working on printing and painting this 35mm scale tavern airship from Arcane Minis and at what point does it go from "mini" to something else? It topped 20kg last night and it's less than half done.

Custom sculpted for a French client, inspired by the official version (to be awarded to the first player to finish the latest puzzle series in Sea of Thieves S9) โ€” but this one's better IMHO. ๐Ÿคช Emerald eyes printing in a couple hours!

Should I design a way for the eyes to light up? I'm thinking of magnetizing the keyring so it attaches to the roof of the mouth and closes the circuit, lighting up the gems. Coin battery in the forehead for power. Thoughts?

Only two more full print plates (Jupiters) to go, and the rear half of the torso and the big wings will be ready for post-proc & shipping! (The Bahamut medallion there is โŒ€ 50mm, btw.) Then, we're onto a 200% Bahamut, by Lord of the Print โ€” which will stand over 2ft tall and nearly 3ft wide, wingtip to wingtip. ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

Lesson learned: Each full plate of these upscaled sculpts run about 1L of resin, so I'll be updating the pricing for the 150%+ versions. ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Sculpted from scratch by our in-house designer (very small team), this is the first test print all primed up and ready for his color rough. (Elegoo Jupiter, Vroom settings, custom resin mix, Vallejo black primer)

Spawned of an idea late one night, this Tiamat by Lord of the Print is still mid-print at a ~200% upscale. ๐Ÿ˜ฑ To clarify, the original size red dragon head is shorter than the thumb seen here, and that version's wingspan is already pushing 15in. Live & learn, eh? ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿค˜๐Ÿผ Onward and upward!
