Oh no, I'm so sorry. About living in Ohio, I might.

I looked into it before I started using it like a year ago. They count the number of searches but claim to not hold actual search queries. I don't have a citation handy (it has been a year...) but even if that's untrue (which I don't think it is, but hypothetically) and they were found to be using it to tweak their engine, meh? I search for memes, accounts for art/porn, games/reviews, etc. I'm not searching for my home address or anything of interest or value. "hey, the horny furry searched for more horny furry stuff" is like "water is still wet, more at 10".

This is a super low-important possibility, imo.

Correct, this is not the same bridge

I've said this elsewhere in the thread, but I have had suicidal ideation... 'events' as well, never called though. If you want someone to talk to (anyone else, too! yes, that means you, hi!), reach out and message me. I know this shit all too well and I don't mind in the slightest, talking to someone who needs - or just wants - to communicate with someone who 'gets it'.

No pressure, I just want to help others like myself.

:( I've been in a similar situation, but I've never called; I have friends that I can talk to openly about this stuff, and not freak them out or have them be judgemental. I don't know you, but I hope you are doing better, and can persevere. Life can be awful, brutal. Being alone in a time of need is... I can't even think of a word with enough emphasis.

If you want, you can send me a message. Might not be helpful, but maybe it will. Just say hi, if you want. You aren't alone. :)

business first responder

"alright, is everyone here? this is an all-hands meeting. Where is Joey? Is he in the bathroom again? He's missed the last 3 meetings... Anyway. Top of the agenda, there's apparently a fire, right over there. Fires are kinda hot and so we have been sure to stay a good distance away, as to not raise the temperature of everyone's complimentary bottled water, handed out at this meeting.

Now it says here that we should tackle this situation as quickly as possible. Has anyone run the numbers by the finance team? We don't want to spend too much on this. The big-wigs upstairs never think about the big picture, and really I don't see why one fire is worth pivoting all our available resources. Samantha, yes?"

"Sir, the fire is growing at an alarming rate, shouldn't we just postpone the meeting and focus on the fire?"

"See, that's exactly the kind of thinking the execs have. But if we spend all our resources, cuts will be made, and jobs will be lost. Not mine, of course, but others. Did anyone do a PR analysis on us 'putting out this fire' versus just running a week-long 'we are sorry' ad campaign?"

(lol I just got the thought and ran with it)

(my first post on lemmy so I hope I'm doing this right)

Distro: Spiral Linux (Debian, KDE spin), by recommendation

System: Lenovo ThinkPad X13 Gen 2 (Intel) (distro recommended as I am looking for Debian(-based), + btrfs, snapshots, and fde, included via the gui installer)

I'm having issues getting ModemManager to unlock my X55 modem. This morning I wiped my drive to install Spiral (KDE), coming from Kubuntu 24.04. While the modem worked after running the proper fcc unlock script in Kubuntu, it is entirely missing in my Spiral install. While I assumed that it would not be that simple, I copied /etc/ModemManager from my Kubuntu live environment to Spiral, ran

sudo ln -sft /etc/ModemManager/fcc-unlock.d /usr/share/ModemManager/fcc-unlock.available.d/105b:e0ab

and restarted, but alas that's not enough, so I'm stuck. I have added the network profile + apn to ModemManager (the UI) but of course without the modem unlocked, I can't connect. I'm new to cellular modems in Linux (this was a windows machine until ~6 weeks ago) but I'm otherwise comfortable with the terminal and commands. The modem was working as expected last night in Kubuntu.

I haven't got the system setup yet (trying this first before going further) so if I botch this, an install is no problem. I'm assuming it's either (or both?) a service, or a missing package that sets up what's needed, but I'm at a loss as to how to proceed.

I discussed this here https://lemmy.world/comment/10540509 this morning, though I think I got all the important details typed up above. But maybe it could be useful somehow.

Any suggestions are welcomed :)
