im still learning all this. but yeah having your own server could be easier. in my case the instance im on lemmy.one hasnt been affected at all by the beehaw thing. i can still see both. i see where the owners of beehaw are coming from i think, trying to stop the influx of unvetted user from sh.itjust.works and lemmy.world being able to post and comment. and they didnt say it was forever they were ope to reopening federation eventually if it works for them. they're just trying to protect what they've worked so hard on.

I didnt get an elitist vibe at all from this post. just that he thinks lemmy is a better place for themselves than reddit is and explains why. their allowed to have an opinion.
If one instance were to become "corrupt" we can just leave and go to another instance though.
well i for one hope that never happens to this place. isn't one of the points of this place that its not really possible, with it being federated and all?

thats exactly what im doing. the only reason ill go to reddit is for those 10 year old posts that solve some super obscure problem im having.
Stay on Lemmy. Obviosuly there's probably going to be some reasons to go back to reddit every once in a while but i think that will be less and less overtime. fuck reddit.
i feel you. i "shredded" my 13 year old account and several alts. it wasnt easy lol.
