Good morning fellow sobernauts, IWNDWYT 😁!

We may be anonymous strangers on the internet, but we have one thing in common. We may be a world apart, but we’re here together!

Welcome to the 24 hour pledge! I’m pledging myself to not drinking today, and invite you to do the same.

Maybe you’re new to c/stop drinking and have a hard time deciding what to do next. Maybe you’re like me and feel you need a daily commitment or maybe you’ve been sober for a long time and want to inspire others.

It doesn’t matter if you’re still hung over from a three day bender or been sober for years, if you just woke up or have already completed a sober day. For the next 24 hours, let’s not drink alcohol!

From belle Robertson, "Tired of Thinking About Drinking": whether you listen to the voice that says “you can’t” or the one that whispers “you can” — you’ll follow the one you believe. being sober is about turning down the volume on the addictive voice that keeps you small, and instead tuning into the positive that reminds you: “this is worth doing. you're worth this. go you.”

From Belle Robertson, "Tired of Thinking about Drinking": "the only voice you need to amplify is the one that believes in you. when fear (or doubt) turns up the volume, it’s your job to dial it back and listen to the quiet voice that says ‘you’re doing this. keep going. not today.’ that’s the voice that can lead you out of the noise. and into clarity."

For everyone who’s anxious about the coming days, don’t let that take your sobriety away from you. Have a plan for these days. We’ll be here if you want to vent.

just worked it out, it's 74 days to inauguration day. 70+ days sober is a really solid base.

2 days sober now and it's rough, especially with the election results (terrible time to quit LOL).

Flipping the narrative: if you can get a solid stint of sobriety now, you'll be in good shape come January and whatever comes after that.

There will never be the perfect time to quit, it's why my sobriety anniversary is a random day in May, I decided "if not now, when?"

We are here to support you in not drinking, today or any other day. However, in order to keep this board a safe space for those who have chosen not to drink, I am asking you to be mindful of our rule that if you have been drinking, you come back when you are sober (have abstained from alcohol for at least the last 12 hours).

Solidarity to all struggling today.

oh, that's a shame. We're glad to have you back though.

Do you know why you snapped? Do you think you could think about what got you there?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 weeks ago

I'm so sorry you're going through this - I really hope you can get some effective treatment.

I found c/leaves but it's not very active.

I've never smoked weed (it's not legal where I am, and aside from that, I don't like the smell so it's never appealed), but the advice I've seen about quitting has been to just focus on one thing at a time, especially in the early days. Don't be all "I'm going to quit drinking and start eating healthily and exercise more and lose weight and give up weed and clean the house and read Improving Books for half an hour a day and" that way lies overwhelm, disaster and woe.
