Did you know you can buy books with blank pages? You can even choose the severity of the discoloration and degree of mottling of the pages. Utter psychopaths.

Mastodon allows you to transfer accounts between instances and IIRC there a feature in the Lemmy roadmap that will allow you to do the same for accounts and communities. Can't happen soon enough.

And it's never quick, either, like "in 50 meters turn left", is it?

"In 50m stay in the left hand lane marked 'left turn only towards Manchester, Salford, Liverpool, Eccles, M60, M602, M62, A580', then in 200m take the exit following signs for 'Manchester, Salford, Liverpool, Eccles, M60, M602, M62, A580' then at the fork take the left exit towards 'Manchester, Salford, Eccles, M602, A580' and we've found a quicker route that saves nine seconds and avoids congestion on the M602 Manchester Approach Road West via the A580 East Lancashire Road and A580 Salford Bypass. To not avoid unselecting this not route don't unpress the button."

Just a quick correction: the BBC is independent of the government and funded directly by the audience who it is, in theory, answerable to. The government would like to change that.

I just moved out of that greasy fucker's constituency. Ashfield is a futureless shithole full if belligerent cretins and he fits it to a tee. He campaigned and won on a platform of thinly-disguised xenophobia. Him and the local racist party, the Ashfield Independents (some of their senior members are back in court this week, I think) are revolting and I couldn't be happier to leave that piss-stinking hellhole behind.

But I feel so sorry for the Eastern Europeans who live in the area; there are a lot of them and in the last few years they have revitalised a lot of the towns - especially Sutton-in-Ashfield, who's high street is full of thriving businesses thanks to them - and are genuinely resented by many of the feckless locals.

I thought you were talking about Fibre To The Premises for a second and was going to fight you.

My take, for what it's worth, is that we don't even have FPTP in the UK, we have Winner Takes All, since they don't even need to get 50% to win, they just need to be the most popular which could mean 21% of votes with four similarly-popular opponents.

WTA/FPTP asks the question "who is the most popular?"; AV asks "who can the voters agree to compromise on?"; STV asks "who best represents the voters?"

And imagine it was the seventies and serving hatches were still fashionable...

The DCIM folder always seems so odd to me. It's a modern, mobile OS pretending to be a Fujitsu point-and-shoot digital camera from 2004.

According to one source he hardly earned the distinction of his PhD.

Twelve ways if you count two-digit years. My nephew was born on 12/12/12 which was convenient.
