Upvoted because this is a proper unpopular decision. That said, people who make unilateral judgements about others without context and based on qualities they don't understand are fucking delusional idiots.

Deciding that anyone who's happy is an idiot doesn't make any sense. People derive happiness from many sources and many consciously make an effort to appreciate smaller joys despite the overwhelming state of fucked this world exists in.

Just because you're failing miserably at finding happiness and you can't momentarily override the agonizing truths or assumptions in your head - doesn’t mean others are stupid for succeeding.

In fact, I'd argue that the only real positive to being alive is being able to find happiness. With this lens, the individuals who are able to do that intentionally or unintentionally are smarter than you - in that they're accomplishing a more meaningful task than just resenting the world over nonsense youre getting tripped up about.

I think this founder (and those who would agree) are conflating 'high income' with 'elite'. I wouldn't call my childs pediatrician an 'elite'. Or the lawyer who helped create my will.

The individuals who genuinely shape and direct the corporate oligarchy that America has become are already using A.I. for nefarious purposes even in its nascent status.

Look at police forces using various forms of facial recognition, or companies like Amzn/Msft intentionally weakening privacy laws and consumer protections to train models that theyll then use to exploit the data theyve harvested from you without consent, etc.

As LLM and other Generative AI tools continue to mature, we absolutely will see them employed in the continued consolidation of power amd wealth by the 'elite'. Even if they bring down the pay of some high income individuals in the meantime.

It has happened with every major advancement so far and I dont see why this one would go differently.

Yeah, it looks like they've tried to tone down the annoying 'touch'iness of Gnome and it has built-in support for themes, etc - but the screenshots give a very similar vine to gnome overall.

Rust-based DE from Pop OS folks thats in a 'public alpha' right now. https://blog.system76.com/

Unicorn is an xfce based thing for Rhino Linux fhat also looks interesting.

Not quite. The current PopOs DE is a gnome fork with 'cosmic shell', etc. The Cosmic Desktop Environment that has yet to be released is just a new DE written in Rust that will replace this Gnome variant in future pop versions.

They give regular progress updates here: https://blog.system76.com/

If you can live with the debian side of things - pop_os is simple, clean, and works out of the box for gaming. If not, I had a good time on Nobara. I've never journeyed further into Arch than Manjaro which I didn't like much - so I can't make direct comparisons for you
