Which was 70 years ago. We're in this spot because a bunch of people are still bitter about the Seven Day War, and the nationhood of the Gaza strip was never officially declared. After all, how the hell can Palestine lay claim or maintain a territory that is totally disconnected from the West Bank? The short answer is "you can't". You can't police it as a separate entity. You can't ask its citizens to move from one area to another without having to deal with passports crossing over the country. You can't govern it.

Israel was formed. It has its own government, and it is a recognized nation. What is not its own nation, and is a lawless neutral zone that has been actively housing terrorist groups, is Gaza.

I mean, I don't know about you, but I have something like 50 different other games in my backlog. I don't need to play any specific game on a console.

I can wait. Years, even. It'll arrive on Steam eventually. And I'll play it. Eventually.

I guess I'm so used to having Mel Gibson as Mad Max that I didn't really register that it was the same character.

And isn't that kind of the point, really? There was nothing in that movie that reflected Mad Max as a unique character, other than the "badass dude" heroic action-packed stereotype that we've seen represented in a hundred other movies. Hell, he talks so little in all of the movies that he might as well be one of those silent protags in an video game.

I basically did the exact opposite. I never press the upvote/downvote button, but I almost always leave a comment on the page whenever I have something interesting to say. I even reply to the replies I get. I have carried this behavior forward to Lemmy.

This is just natural. You want to comment on threads to conversate, even if you don't really agree or disagree with the article. If you like/dislike the article enough, you'll up/downvote it and comment on it.

I didn't really have a problem with Anya Taylor-Joy in the Queen's Gambit. What makes you think she can't act?

Opening weekend is a reflection of the hype machine and expectations

Well, maybe they should have advertised it more. I didn't hear anything about it until after it was released.

Not having mad max in a mad max film probably didn’t help the opening weekend.

Was there Mad Max in Fury Road?

That's kind of a global problem, not really tied to the industry as a whole.

The difference is that a CS degree is actually useful. You wouldn't believe the amount of people with a bachelors/masters in some random degree (like math or music) that end up getting a programming job.

The programming industry is only growing. Tools like CoPilot and modern IDE might may it slightly easier, but there is no shortage of things that need development.
