Scaling from the intensely queasy sensuality of the title track’s gasps and deathly synth drop, thru the the sky-kissing guitar licks off Self Rape, to the frozen Eski shoegaze burn of I Fucked It Up and an elusive glimpse of ecstasy in Tongue Kiss Crying, the mood is perpetually high-strung yet melancholic, violent yet compassionate, perhaps best considered in terms of MDMA as a bitter salt or prism for reflective, therapeutic purposes.

It’s definitely Ivo Pacheco’s strongest work yet, and a hugely timely dispatch from one of rave’s visionary contemporary se’ers.

"Invierno has (as the title may already suggest) two topics or themes it is mainly influenced by: The country of Spain and the season of winter. It was recorded in the winter of 2021/22, and the Spanish influence is founded mainly on the listening-experience of Rodrigo's Concerto de Aranjuez. I tried to transform the melancholic summer-atmosphere of this beautiful work into the winter season by using some tiny fragments, granulating them and communicating with them via my modular synth. The tracks developed in a constant flow. The Rags of Winter are two pieces created right afterwards in the same atmosphere with the use of the modular again and a Ciat Lonbarde Sidrax as a second instrument. I am glad that this album, which is quite dear to me, found a home on the beautiful Rohs label, and would like to thank Andrea Porcu many times for his care about it." credits releases November 16, 2023

Music From Memory is excited to introduce the self-titled debut album of Habitat Ensemble, a new musical collective headed up by musician Marius Houschyar.

The collective originates deep in the south of the Czech Republic, on the border with Austria, amongst the idyllic hills and fields of a village called Maříž, where a summer school of outsiders and creatives have been gathering since the 1990s. Enriching each other through intercultural exchange, summer school participants have created a unique gathering of artistic expression and interdisciplinary research.

Originally grown out of the idea of translating the unique energy of the community and its environment into a musical journey where each member makes their own individual contribution, during the summer of August 2022, Habitat Ensemble became an exciting vehicle for connection and co-creation.

Whether it be musical experimentation, composition, poetry, song or dance, Habitat Ensemble, having started as a series of multidisciplinary workshops, slowly developed into a unique musical recording. The album serves to conjure the unique nature, community, experimentation surrounding the school and the collective’s search for harmony across all of these, both musical and spiritual.

MFM065 will be released in LP and digital format, comes with artwork by David McFarline. credits released November 10, 2023

The Scandal of Time' bookends a prolific period of experimentation for Sam Shackleton and follows a raft of collaborations (with Wacław Zimpel, Heather Leigh and Scotch Rolex this year alone) with what amounts to his first new solo album since 2021’s ‘Departing Like Rivers’. It might also be his most advanced, forward-facing work in years.

Shackleton's been edging away from the dancefloor for about a decade now, exploring alternative tuning systems, modern classical sounds and non-Western rhythms. 'The Scandal of Time' works not just as a précis but a daring leap forward, mixing ghosted, traditional; German folk songs with heart-piercing basslines, xenharmonic percussion and open-ended drones, on what promises to be his last solo release for a while.

The eerie, hauntological world Shackleton has created here is a testament to his years of work on experimental bass music's fringes. He's managed to shepherd us through so many disparate musical styles that have here been finally sutured into a single, startling vessel. credits released November 10, 2023
