generally true for an out of state audience. In state I tend to round down and say I live in a suburb of a suburb of Denver

I can't believe how pro-reddit sentiment is. It's like a totally different reality.

I deleted my 10+ year reddit account right after spez' AMA. I find lemmy quite serviceable as a replacement except I was missing my local subreddit. So I stood up an instance I'll try to build up. But now I need to tell people about it so I had to create a new reddit account and post links on my local subreddit.

I found the ansible instructions from that same guide pretty easy if you wanna give those a try. feel free to DM me if you get stuck. Here's an install support chat too: https://app.element.io/#/room/#lemmy-support-new-instance:discuss.online

you can setup your own instance and block federation with instances that way. then use a tool like this to auto-subscribe to all the top communities. https://github.com/Fmstrat/lcs.

I've just done that myself for different reasons but this is a discovered side effect.

I rebooted about 5 minutes into it. running a t2.micro instance but it went back into high cpu after reboot and I was still unable to ssh in for another 5 minutes. I just rebooted it again to be sure and it was available almost immediately.

I haven't tried it yet but we use a lot of the jet brains IDEs and their new offering fleet is supposed to do remote code well: https://www.jetbrains.com/fleet. I actually need to evaluate it so if you give it a good look please let me know what you think?

interesting my new instance just had a 10ish minute cpu spike where ir was unresponsive. Even following a reboot.
