I’ll second the meat thermometer. I bought one a little while ago and find that it prevents me from overcooking things out of an overabundance of caution.

Perhaps lemmy admins should start charging apps like this for API access…

Restic in the homelab and Veeam at work. I’m pretty happy with both!

I’m using cloudflare. Their API is pretty simple so it’s easy to keep the record up to date.

Hi homelabbers!

I'm about to have a 3Gbps WAN connection installed and I'm looking to upgrade my firewall to support it.

Can anyone offer me any advice around choosing the right hardware?

I’m looking at the R86S devices listed on aliexpress, which can be configured with 2 SFP+ 10Gb ports. Has anyone used one?

I'm currently on a 500Mbps link and use a generic aliexpress fanless box with 4 NICs and an Intel J4205 quad core CPU. The J4205 is way overpowered for 500Mbps. I’m not sure what I need to sustain 3Gbps though.

The firewall sits at my network perimeter with a WAN port connected to the ISPs equipment and a LAN port connected to my core switch, which is an old HP procurve with 24 1G ports and 4 SFP+ 10G ports.

I have a handful of VLANs and NAT rules. I run DHCP, DNS, a wireguard VPN tunnel and pfBlockerNG.

This may go without saying in a homelab post, but I’m looking for something cheap and I’m not bothered about support contracts or enterprise-grade reliabilty.

This is my second comment since joining this morning, so yes, significantly more active.
